Yes, the best are, on Kowloon side, Toymax, 216-228A Nathan Road in Prudential Center, above Jordan MTR station, or, on HK Island, Airbus Models, 60-68 Des Voeux Rd in Man Yee Arcade, near Central MTR station!

I'll be visiting both on Friday morning!!!!!

ENJOY!!!!!!!

Airbus Models isn't cheap, but they do have a good variety.

Another to visit is West Main Toys in the Pioneer Center off of Nathan Rd. Their prices are just as competitive as Toymax. WestMainToys.com

JFK Aero in the In's Point Plaza has a decent selection, and prices could be fair to expensive.

Of the 4, I would rank them as the following:

Variety:
1. Airbus/West Main Toys
3. ToyMax (close 3rd)
4. JFK Aero

Pricing:
1. Toymax
2. West Main Toys (close 2nd)
3. JFK Aero
4. Airbus

Personally, I've been buying mostly from Toymax and West Main Toys whenever I visit HK.

I was at Hong Kong aBout a few weeks back and i recommend if you want to have the freedom to open the models on your own then head to westmain. They even gave me a discount!!!.Toymax service is bad and prices are almost the same as westmain. Obviously there are rarer finds at westmain for example if you ahve the cash they have like ANA 747-400D Pokemon "Blue" for abt HGK$1100. They have a lot of stock around in the shop so do not worry if u want a new piece. All,in all Westmain provides the best service the best variety... BTW, don't waste time if you're heading to JFK as it's difficult to find and the shop size is abt 1/4 the size of westmain.

Have to disagree with you mate concerning Toymax ! I was there in HK at Toymax last Tuesday ( 25th Nov ) & like always, Robert was always accomodating & my usual discount applies.

tinyfirez, sorry to hear that your experience at Toymax wasn't pleasant. But like Dominic said, whenever I go there Robert is always accommodating and pleasant to talk to. Always get good customer service from them. Come to think of it, first time I went there it was after hours and Robert opened the door to let me browse around.

Are you surprised about that coming from Singapore? 10% discount is a norm everywhere just for the asking.

You cannot say a bad word about Robert and Toymax.
He is the best 1:400 model seller there is!!
Fair prices and great service.

It is actually WestMain that don't let you open the boxes untill you get to know the ladies.
Also, if you don't speak Chinese it is hard to communicate with them. Better to take someone who can translate.

Airbus models, although a good selection, don't have pricing on their models and I think they price their models based on your background or what you are wearing.
Make sure you wear less-appealing clothes when you visit them.

this is probably true with most shop owners, and also applies to toymax

That's why it is up to you to decide which one is the best. If your Asian go to westmain as you can most likely speak cantonese or chinese and can easily converse with the lady there but if your european or caucasian then toymax would be the obvious decision. Because they always think that the caucasian's have more money to purchase stuff from them then asians. That's how the asian people think.

^Really? I'm Chinese and saw/felt no difference in treatment at Toymax...and I've been in the store when Caucasian customers were in there and I wasn't dissed or neglected.

Funny thing about the nice lady at West Main. First time I went there there was a worker who spoke some English so she had him stay with me the entire time...like the entire 3 hours. Second time I was there, we tried to communicate with each other...it was difficult but we managed to understand each other. But when a friend who can speak English stopped by the store, the owner got her friend to act as the translator. ...bless her heart!

Yeah, she sold me a Herpa Qantas B737 Yananyi from her hidden storage room.

I didn't realize we're not allowed to open the boxes in her store. She never mentioned it to me nor objected the last time I was there. Yikes!

The thing about toymax biased to english speaking / caucasian customer which I believe is convincible as told.

I have experienced many times that when I went into the store to browse through the planes, that 2 guys were actually looking at me the whole time as if I would have shop-lifted any of their planes.

and

those good stocks have been reserved for overseas/frequent foreign buyers and those defected ones were sold to the normal customer.

Once they took out 6 Phoenix 777-300ER model for me to choose and all of them are defected in different ways.

Judging from their attitude, stock varieties, I will not go there again for sure.

If its close to the Tsuen Wan subway line, then its a short walk from the station. Take the Tsuen Wan line to Prince Edward and follow the signs to the Pioneer Centre. WMT is on level #2.

You can also take the Tsuen Wan line to Jordan and follow the signs to the Prudential Center. That's where Toymax is located on level 2 as well.

JFK Aero is also off the Tsuen Wan line..Yau Ma Te station at the Ins Point Plaza.

Then you have Airbus Models at a short walking distance from the Central station on the Tsuen Wan line. Forgot the name of the building its in, but its a short 5 minutes walk.

Thats rubbish about Toymax. Robert and his wife are the choice when buying from Hong Kong!
When your there they do watch you - not to see if your stealing but to see if you need assistance. I know both of them very well due to my frequent visits there with my wife and they always make sure we are accommodated.
I've been to Westmain once and they were fair - no issues with them but I don't believe that toymax deserves the flack it has recvd from this thread.

Airbus models on the other hand is dodgey!!! Their prices fluctuate by the hour!!! Pass!

I seldom reply now but when I saw the negative comments about Toymax... I would like to say something about them. Toymax are so far no problem with my purchases. Just like some members mentioned, they do watch you but indeed they are anticipating to offer you assistance.

Something I want to say about westmain is, the lady is generally nice but their prices are a bit more than that of Toymax's. However, if you buy more models, the lady tends to give you some "discount"

Mind you, I was there once to buy the Ural IL86 for $210... however, few days later I went to Toymax, they were selling the same thing for $190.

So guys, think twice, they just put the price a bit more but to offer you cheaper unless you buy more models... indeed you don't save that much...

I know I've already stated my support for Toymax, despite some of the experiences of others here. But to give you an idea of how nice Robert and the Mrs are, the last time I was there she actually took the time to bring me, with my mom, to a restaurant that had a special on a lobster with noodle dish a couple of blocks away. Even went up to the restaurant with us and asked, in Cantonese, whether the special is available and told them, before she left, that we wanted that dish as they brought me and my mom to the table. Even gave us a tip on when to go to a dim sum restaurant close to their store. Very nice people, I tell ya! And the lobster noodle dish, and roast goose, were delicious!

As for prices, before I thought WMT and Toymax are pretty competitive with each other. When WMT moved to their current store, I've found their prices are a bit higher than Toymax. I guess when they moved they found some of their older stock was priced a bit low so they raised it to the norm. But there are still some models that they are cheaper than Toymax's so its worth the trip. The two biggest advantages that WMT has is that they carry a few brands Toymax doesn't (eg Dragon Wings), and their selection is bigger. But Toymax does have the overall price advantage over WMT.

Regardless, I've found staff at both Toymax and WMT very friendly and helpful. That's why I love shopping there whenever I go to HK!

If you stay at the Prudential Hotel on Nathan Road you are above Toymax. Great hotel - great rates and with the rail line downstairs and Toymax also, your set!

Hey everyone! I only know 2 good model plane stores in Hong Kong(WestMainToys in Pioneer Centre and Air Bus Models in Man Yee Arcade)

IN Man Yee everything is as expensive as hell but a reasonable price in WestMainToys.

Any of you know other good stores in Hong Kong which sell nice and cheap planes?

I too am disappointed in the flak Toymax has attained in this thread.
I visited for the first time last weekend and Robert and his wife were extremely courteous and helpful to me and other patrons of the store while I was there. (All of whom were Chinese.)
I will definitely return there in the future.

I would STRONGLY DISAGREE with your comment on ToyMax. You just haven't given them a chance! Get to know them. I enjoy talking with them a lot. Their prices on almost EVERYTHING is much cheaper than Airbus or JFK, and at par with West Main. I buy from all four. Airbus has the BEST variety of older, unattainable models, but at exorbitant costs. My preference is first: West Main, then Toymax, then Airbus, and least, JFK for its pathetic pricing structure.

I suppose in the end, we all have different experiences at the same store. I went to West Main for the first time in March, and despite not knowing the lady there, she allowed me to open the boxes to inspect the models prior to purchase. That may have something to do with the fact that I can speak Cantonese, though.

I plan to visit Toymax when I return to Hong Kong in December, as it seems to have a good reputation on these forums.

I haven't even heard of JFK Aero before until you said so. Where is Point Plaza and which floor is JFK Aero on? Do they have a website and is their selection as big as the West Main Toys, Toymax and Air Bus Models?

In's Point Plaza is on Nathan Rd right above the Ya Ma Tei station. According to their website, In's Point Plaza is right next to the Ya Ma Tei B1 exit.

IMO, JFK's selection is not as big as the WMT, Toymax, or Air Bus...but they do have a decent amount of models in all scales available. Price-wise, for the common models they're about the same (if not slightly more) than WMT, but the hard to find models are quite high. I've been there a couple of times and talked to Felix, who seems to be very helpful and a decent guy. May be worth a quick trip just to see what they have available.

And their store number is listed 251...and if I recall correctly you have to go up 3 flights of escalators to get to the 200 level. Don't hold me to this...can't remember for sure. And its probably best to go there around late afternoon/dinner time...someone should be there at this time.

Does anyone here know where can I get Phoenix Jets Cathay Pacific Models in Hong Kong?

I can only find Cathay Pacific Models from Herpa which is not satisfying me.

That's because Herpa are the only licensed manufacturer of CX models. From time to time, Phoenix has released unlicensed CX models which have all sold very quickly. They are limited editions, too, which means getting one would be extremely difficult. At the moment, I don't think there are any Phoenix CX models out there, but have a look around on Ebay, there may be some there.

Phoenix made an excellent CX B77W a couple of years back. I managed to get the AWC livery one (B-KPF) but I haven't been successful in getting B-KPA.

Jetway Models in Washington, USA have one A340 One World livery left in stock for $45.

In HK, you can contact ToysKingToys since he has an A340 in current livery left...but selling it at HKD750.

Lastly, you may want to go to Air Bus because I vaguely recall seeing some CX in his store. Its been two years so I don't know if he still has them or not, but they weren't the official Herpa models. Can't remember if they were Magic Models, Phoenix, or other manufacturers.

Bought my Phoenix B-KPF from ToysKingToys.com. Don't think he has any more available.

I didn't buy my Phoenix B-KPF in Hong Kong. I know that the store I bought it from no longer has it in stock. That model was released two years ago, and most likely all sold out by now.

I've stopped buying from JFK Aero for their ludicrous prices and their lack of integrity - never sticking to office hours. Who can run a business this way? I come from a really far part of town to visit there, and they're not even open!
