Default Delta B787-8

I can't wait to see the 787 with the Widget on the tail now that DL is the U.S. launch customer.

I give it two months before GJ releases it.

It'll also be interesting to see models with a hybrid DL/NW scheme. I assume that not all NW planes will be immediately given a full DL livery.

Given the billions it would cost to repaint the entire NW fleet, and given that this merger is all about trying to stem the hemmorage of money, repainting will take place as aircraft cycle through deep maintencne.

Expect to see NW livery for some years to come.

Besides, this is Delta we are talking about. They can't even get all their own fleet livery standard, you can pull up at a terminal and see three different Delta liveries side by side.

While I would too like to see the hybrid liveries, I am wondering if we'll see them.

I'm still waiting for a Delta/Western 727 hybrid, both the bare metal version and the white one. DL had plenty of aircraft wandering around wearing some version of the schemes that wasn't quite Delta and wasn't quite Western. It would be interesting to see those as well.

But bring on the hybrid schemes. I'll certainly take some.

Let's all remember the deal is far from done. That said, I'll always remember NW as a smaller airline that took on giants (PA, UA, EA, and DL) and came with everything they had. They had a lot... Boeing Stratocruisers, even on domestic routes. "Regal Service" to Florida from the midwest. Big equipment (DC 10-40s, 747s), service to Alaska, in the old days. "Orient" was their middle name. Always, always their bright red tails, and a teenage me pushed way back in his seat as his NW 720B blasted out of ORD on it's way to GEG, and SEA to the World's Fair in 1962.

I guess my monthly pension check will come from Delta now rather than NWA. Huh! Never worked for them one day and it will end up that I get my retirement money from a company that I never worked for. Classic!
