Default Large or Small? - prop or jet? Airframe?

..... Maybe it's been asked before, maybe not. So often it seems collections of any kind cut a broad swath of what is available. We all have specific interests, but collect a lot that is in the perifary. Here's mine:
LARGE OR SMALL

..... I prefer the smaller aircraft. There are a lot of 727s,737s, Tridents, A319/20/21s, F-28s and the like. I like the smaller planes. My collection really started sort of hell bent on getting 747s and my collection has 24 of the big beasties compared to 16 727s and 33 737s. I've also accumulated six BAe-146s. Waiting for more of the F-28s.

PROP OR JET?

..... Growing up in the 1950s and 60s at the dawn of the jet age, there still is a very soft place in my heart for good old prop planes. My first few flights on airliners were on prop planes. How could I or anyone of my age feel any different? Of course I prefer the prop planes just for the sheer nostalgia alone. Given the fact that there are not all that many models of prop planes out there by comparison to jets, I do have a nice group of prop models. I pick up a DC-3/Li-2 when ever I can being that a DC-3 was the very first ride in an airplane I ever had and I have six of them. But the wonder of my childhood was the Super Constellation and I have 13 models of the various "Connies". I don't neglect others having YS-11s, Dc-6s, a PB-5Y, a couple B-377s, a Viscount, a Vanguard and a pair of Hercules. Of all the prop planes I've flown on, my most flights and time was on C-130s which I just have a single military example (the other is a Saudi L-100).

FAVORITE AIRFRAME
..... Or does size really matter? Out of all the models I just like the L-1011 (of course I kind of like any 3 holers). I wasn't really that fond of flying crammed into L-1011s (Cathay Pacific service in the 1970s kind of offset that), but I love the look of the plane itself. And to prove it, I have 15 L-1011s. I was on a frenzy for a while and haven't bought another L-1011 in more than a year, still love 'em.

..... And now what do you say?

Great Idea for a Thread. Nice Work...

Large or Small?

-> A mixture of both. Most recently, my collection of regional aircraft (GJ) and larger aircraft such as the 773ER have been the growth areas.

Prop or Jet?

-> The vast majority of my collection is jet. The only prop driven intruders being the Q400's from GJ.

Favourite Airframe?

-> The MD-11 by far. Although the recent Phoenix Cathay 773ER now is my favourite aircraft in my collection.

I like all aircraft, and it's tough to narrow down my favorites. I'm partial to the props, and airframes with three or more engines. I find I'm leaning more toward the smaller planes simply because I lack space anymore for the larger models, but the smaller aircraft have a lot of charm to them that the bigger planes tend to lack. I remain eclectic in my collecting, whatever strikes my fancy.

I try to get at least one of each aircraft that is available. Off the top of my head, I think I'm only missing the F-27, YS-11, CV-440 and Viscount from the moulds that have been made to date.

I try to collect between two and four models of each airline I like, except when it comes to my favorites, such as Aeromexico, Mexicana, Pan Am and TWA.

The aircraft that has the greatest representation in my collection is the 737 with 18 subjects and one more on its way. This is also due to the many variants of the plane available. In second place is the 767, with 10 models.

I don't focus on any particular era, rather I just buy what I like, ranging from the L-749 to the 787.

The year 1970. Anything that was in the air that year is a fav.( I do however have an interest in many other types.)

In 1970 the 1st generation jets, along with many turboprops and piston props were in action.

Great thread! Fun!

Large? Small? I sort of fancy a good balance of each, to show size comparison. I will say...Medium!

Prop? Jet? I have jets now, but I will get props too. I started flying in the Navy as a P-3 flight engineer, so I do have my eye on some of those Dragon Wings P-3s, or maybe even an L-188. C-130s are cool, too.

Favorite so far, I love the DC-9, or MD-80 series...or 717 (all semantics, my friend!)

I like mid to small size aircrafts. Turbo props over jet engines.

TurboProps
F-27, Shorts-200, L-188, Emb-120, Dash-8-100/200/300, Dornier 228, ATR-42/72 and the Q400.

Jet engines
737-100/200/900, Emb-135/145, BAe-146-100/200/300, MD-80s and the Dornier 328

LARGE OR SMALL

I like whatever was used during the '70s & '80s for my diorama and showcases.

PROP OR JET?

Because jets had pretty much taken over the seen during this time period, I will focus on the props. Eastern Airline's Hockey Stick Connies were still used on their shuttle service and I have three. Piedmont is followed with four YS-11s and the remaining belong to small airlines that used the F-27s, L-188s & CV-440s. The Frontier CV-580 in Saul Bass scheme is a grail for me.

The only unique jet that stands out would be Modern Air's CV-990.

FAVORITE AIRFRAME

By far the Boeing 727. Sexiest airframe on three legs.
