With Skybus now Skybust, what's going to happen to the remaining stock of exclusive A319 models that Gemini made for them?

Good question .... I just posed the question on the GJ forum.
I'll pass on the answer(s) (if I get one). Wasn't there a rumor (daydreaming ?) about the next GJ200 A319 being a Skybus ? Buddy |

The only thing I see happening is that people are buying them like hotcakes fresh off the griddle.

I ordered one from Nick without knowing who they were and before they went bust.
It was the livery that appealed to me and that I don't have many 319s in my collection. |

I don't understand why models become so hot when an airline shuts down. Yes, the increased awareness probably creates a more nostalgic moment, but heck, they are not like other airline memorabilia that can not be re-created.
I see this with airplane slides and it makes sense. I do slide photography and a slide is a one of a kind unless duped of course. Once you can't photograph a plane it becomes a rare find. However, with models, anyone can release a model at any time. Can someone else shed light on this? |

Well my friend, models are almost always produced once and that is it. There are exceptions when it comes to 'mainline' carriers that also buy models to sell in their store, but not so for niche carriers like Skybus, etc. I myself do not have a Skybus in my collection. The livery reminds me too much of the 'hippy' days and I honestly despise anything that looks or represents that whole insane era. Yeah, I know I am half nuts myself! |

Unlike the pipeline industry, airlines large and small love marketing campaigns. Independence Air was another small, short lasting airline that had marketing or memorabilia items out the wazoo. Speaking of airline memorabilia, the re-creation of retro flight bags for distribution and sales is a current trend. I purchased a new Lufthansa bag (yes, they have pockets for cell phones, compact disc players and lap tops) a year ago. Like you Midway1979, I'm into slides myself. I do agree with you about the unique place that picture slides hold. And if you can get ahold of corporate pictures, that's a much bigger treasure.

I'm with you on the TV shows during the hippie era. I don't think anyone can forget Star Trek's "The Menagerie" (1966) with Susan Oliver. She also piloted her aircraft into the record books in 1970.![]()

i didnt even know skybus existed until there was talk on this forum of there models being sold from there website. the attraction is the exclusive model your mainline dealer cant/ shouldnt be able to get. look at the price of the jetblues. i wanted one but wasnt prepared to buy through the skybus website, i asked nick if he could these and he could so i ordered one from him, now skybus has gone bust before the model even arrives but i will still be keeping it, just because it doesnt fly today doesnt mean it shouldnt be considered. i also love my little independance air A319. and Jetblue A320s, i would never have heard of these airlines if they hadnt produced the models so airlines should relax on there trademarks , lighten up and realise the potential these little models have.

Just to let you all know, the 2008 May issue of Airways Magazine has an excellent five page article on "Skybus" before the airline folded. The article covers the airline's history along with great pictures and a route map. I got the mag so I might as well order the model.
![]() And unbelievably, the same mag has an eight page pictorial on the wildlife tails of "FRONTIER" Airlines' aircraft. Excellent group shots at mainly Denver. It doesn't stop there. It has a ten page article entitled, "The DC-8 is 50! Another article features a five page article/pictorial on Style in the Aisle. I definitely need to tour the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. And there's plenty of current, historical and technology based articles from places around the globe. This magazine is a keeper. ![]()

Geez, that sounds like one of the best Airliners issues ever. Might have to grab one at Barnes/Noble.
