I finally bought one of these high a$$ DHC-8-400, only to see what I could do to this looong MLG. Not that hard and surprise ! it doesn't fall on its tail (invalid CG theory it seems). Here is the result, before on top photo, result on bottom one :
![]() ![]() Now I'm much happier with this model. Forgot to take pics of what I done though, I'll do it next time.

Nice job. You could at least describe what you did even if you didn't take pics of the process.

Looks good. I think that the second ones angle is much more accurate.

Looks like you removed the infamous "2mm" from the gear....

I would love to know how you trimmed the gear down.

Good One! We've Been Told 2mm Doesn't Make A Difference!
GREAT JOB MYSTERE! You Have Nailed The Correct Angle! I Get To Touch This Pup Here In Toronto At Shows, Plus I Spot Them Often Unobstructed At Their Gates! |

The first part is to remove each landing gear (excepted the nose one, of course) from their well, they're only glued in place, but it may require a bit of patience to avoid damaging nacelles paint or gear doors. Then remove the remaining glue from the well (I used an X-Acto type tool). Each gear is made of its two legs and a rectangular part, moulded together, the later one being glued into each well. Next step is to eliminate this rectangular part by cutting it off BUT also cutting a bit of the main leg in the process (about half a millimeter) while leaving the other leg untouched. Failure to do this will leave you with a landing gear extending straight from its well, while it should be slanted back (don't ask how I discovered this... ). Here is what you should be left with :![]() ![]() Last part, glue your gear back in place, the most aft possible, et voilà ! ![]()

Although I agree, the results have improved the "hot rod" stance of the model, I don't have the cajones to risk ending up with a broken model...well done, Mystere. If shipping were cheaper to France, I'd send you my Q models to fix...heh.

My turn... I thought that was a coo tip.
I'v managed to yank off the left MLG, but the right is too tight. I'm a little afraid to break this fragile tiny strut. Wish my luck. lol Photos later. Last edited by C-Rex; 04-08-2008 at 07:08 PM. |
