I'm still a bit new to this 1:400 lark, forgive me if this is newbie question but can anyone tell me anything about Tucano models? I have found a model for sale on the internet that looks like a Dragon Wings model but the description says it's from "Tucano Models". Any info appreciated.Thanks.

A couple o years ago this forum generated a lot of comments about Tucano products; most seemed to be not very complimentary. Not necassarily about the quality of the product but more about the legitmacy of production. I have a few examples and am happy to have them in my collection.

When Tucano was using DW, their stuff wasn't too bad. Kind of like Jet-X!
When they went on their own, their quality & business ethics, went down the toilet! Hence, they were gone from the scene in only a few months!
Good riddance!

All depends on the mold. Early on, they were much like Jet-X, in that Dragon actually made the planes. Those were usually of good quality(though their choice of schemes sucked). Later, they made their own molds. Those suck.

Not too many Tucano MD11's around. Most of them "Swiss" and a single FedEx Panda. As said above, the DWs are fine. Don't bother too much about the other ones...

So that explains it. I have a few Tucano models, they have "Produced by Dragon Wings for the Tucano Line" on their boxes. No pure "Tucrappo" models, though, since so much was said about the poor quality.

FWIW I have a Tucano Tu-154 in the Cubana colours and a couple of their 747s. Swissair, CX, KLM.

Generally I am very happy with them except one blinding error with the wings. The Tuc version has a straight through leading edge where on a real 747, the chord changes forward from the outboard engines.
To some they may not even see it and I choose to just look beyond that error but other may loath it. Printing etc is just like DW or GJ IMO.
The little 154 is a great.

As I said, I have a few Tucano models, the Cubana is one of them...but the mould looks very much like the PX mould, so if it is a straight Tucano, it's had a little help. When there is an overwhelming "nay' as to a product line, I don't want to risk disappointment buying the product. Maybe if I don't have to spend much (I got the Cubana for $10 on eBay), I won't mind, but normally, I listen to what pass for experts on this forum, since they have the experience. But like Unicorn keeps harping on, it's your money, spend it how you like.

Don't forget there was a Hasegawa 1;400 Dc10 in Thai colours that was released years ago - pure plastic and sensational detail. No landing gear

But an AC one is a must.

plus a Garuda, UTA , MAS , Phillipines , Northwest , Air Pacific , American , etc etc etc etc

For Those Who Don't Care What The Model Looks Like...Buy It.
Some Of You Are Forgetting Glider Pilot Is Asking How "GOOD" Is Their MD-11 Mould.
IMO Their Mould Does Not Even REMOTELY Look Like An MD-11, Nor Does Their DC-10. They Are The Worst In The Hobby.

The Tucano Story, Or At Least As Far As Moulds Go.
1) DW/Tucano Models were FINE. Love The Swissair & Varig Stuff They Made.
2) Rumored To Have Cheated DW Financially, Ending The Partnership.
3) Introducing A New Tucano B-747-400 mould. SEAMLESS! Superior To The Seamed Gemini Jets At The Time, But Definitely A Copy.
Truth Is It Has Several Flaws. The Wings As Mentioned. Upper Deck Is Too High & The Most Bizarre Cockpit In The Industry For Their First Model. Eva Air.
Tail Fin Chord Is A Bit Narrow & Off Shaped. Pylons & Engines Have Issues Too.
The KLM Had The Cockpit Corrected, But Different Names On Each Side Of The Nose. Not Only That The Cheatline Expanded On One Side.
For The First Year, They Had The BEST Colors In The Industry By A Milestone Which Is Why I Bought the Eva Air, KLM, Singapore Tropical Megatop, Qantas Formula One & JAL Super Logistics.
4) Introducing New MD-11 & 767 Moulds. Welcomed By Some, But Scorned By Those That Know What These Aircraft Look Like.
QC Issues Continued While In Their Final Years Adding
5) More New Moulds Such As The DC-9-32, TU-154, B-717, DC-10 & MD-80.
These Models Not Only Had The Usual QC Issues, But Were Also Poor Moulds.
Color Also Suffered Drastically With These Moulds.
The ERJ-145 Was Pretty Good However.
6) These Moulds Went On To Phoenix & Gemini Used Many As Well For A Time.
7) The Fall Of The Company Is Prolly Due In Part Their Business Ethics, Quality & Greed. Boy I Paid HANDSOMELY Foor My Tucrappo 744s. 60 Bucks Each Retail. Big Bird Killed Them With 40.00 Pricing & Superior Moulds.
8) Tucriminal. To Those In Behind The Scenes, They Are Also Known As "Tucriminal"
Personally I Use The Term Tucrappo Mostly, But Every Now & Again Tucriminal, Simply Because They Cost So Much.
They Are Also Known As Tucriminal Because They Introduced "Golden Wings" Under The Tucano Brand Name, They Gauranteed Only 499 Releases Per Model Under Tucano (As Well as Promising To Replace Flawed Models & MELTING The Defective Ones). Under Golden Wings However They Tried To Cheat The Collectorate And Released Several Models Like The Eva Air With An Additional 499 Pieces(Same reg, Same Flawed Cockpit).
They Tried To Fool The Collectorate, But Someone Called Them On It Earning The Tucriminal Name In The Eyes Of Collectors As Well.

The Tuc Tu-154 is very good so I disagree about the poor mould on that one.

YES! Goes Great With SHREDDIES & Captain CRUNCH!

The TU-154 Is Certainly One Of Their Better Moulds, But Side By Side Comparisons To The AC Version Clearly Shows Some Deficiencies At The Nose & Aft Section.
Much Along The Lines Of Their 744, If It's OK By You, Get It. The 4 Models I Bought Were OK To Me.

I have Tu-154's from AC, GJ, PX and one by Tucano...the Tucano and PX are equal in quality, both inferior to GJ and AC, AC being the most accurate that I could tell. But they all look great to me, one of my favorite aircraft types.
