But what a cute idea AS came up with...gotta give their marketing people a hat's off...not that the average pax would ever notice it, but cute nonetheless.

Yeah, no kidding

example of a conversation:
average pax: whats that on the tail?
expert: a lei, it's to symbolize the new service that alaska has innagurated to Hawaii
average pax: oh, whatever

Very nice detail as well as variations in the alaska models, good job, gemini. Hopefully I'll see this one tomorrow when I go to the airport

The tail depicts what happens after an Eskimo finishes his (or hers) first Hawaiian Mai Tai.

ROFL only if they eat the orchid, which was a trick my parents used to play on people, that you had to eat the orchid from your first Mai Tai

It's the same as in a 757. It's not as bad as it might seem...I've done it numerous times on both the 737 and 757, however I will admit that, generally speaking, I prefer a widebody. From my experience, Northwest's 757-300s are a pretty comfortable ride, as are Aloha's 737-700s. The one widebody I do not recommend is Air Canada's 767-200 if you're in the forward coach cabin. The seat pitch is very cramped. However, the rows behind the overwing emergency exits aren't nearly as bad.

BTW, Alaska Airlines actually runs longer routes with their 737NGs than all these West Coast-Hawaii runs. Try Chicago-Anchorage or Miami-Seattle sometime ;-) Air Pacific also runs a 737-800 from Honolulu-Nadi....3,162 miles. I believe Copa runs a 737-700 on some Latin/South American route that's in the neighborhood of 3,200 miles. Plus, you can't forget about those Privatair 737BBJs across the Atlantic, but those don't exactly have your typical airline cabin interior ;-)

United does it with 757s. Really no difference. Hell 707s use to do it and they were nearly the same size as this Alaska one if not smaller.

Maybe the tail depicts Mr. Eskimo after a flight to Hawaii in the 737...
