That sounds very strange. I have that same model with windows on both sides as there should be. I take it you don't look at your models very often? I think I would have noticed something like that about one second after taking the model out of the box.

It happens sometimes, everyone needs to check their 747 upper deck windows on *both* sides immediately after you get it. (I speak from experience)

Wouldn't a model like this become a sort of collectors item? These one off 'error' models can sometimes fetch quite a price.

I think it depends on the error, because some so-called "errors" can easily be forged. For example, when I ordered the GJ USAir 767-200, it arrived without the USAir titles on the left side of the fuselage. This was an error, but could easily have been made by wiping the titles off using nail polish remover. I'm not sure what goof would put up big bucks for something like that. Needless to say, I sent the model back and received a new one without any errors.

My thoughts as well. You can look at it both ways. manufacturer goofed on the tampo printing, or "wow" "I've got a rare model, here." I guess it depends on the reason for gettin' the model.

If anyone thinks "error" models are worth something, I will happily sell my GJ Aer Lingus 747.

I would guess it's one of those misprinted one offs that slipped trough inspection. And you were unfortunate to get that "special" model.

I love the old Thai colors! I bought two of that one so that I have one in reserve in case something happens. It's the only Thai aircraft that I've flown on myself (Amsterdam to Zurich and Hong Kong to Taipei) so I absolutely want it in my collection.

Actually, that Amsterdam to Zurich flight has a story behind it. In 1997, star alliance offered a sweet, make that extremely sweet, deal. Make one flight with each of the five members of the star alliance (Thai, United Airlines, sas, Lufthansa and Air Canada) and receive a free flight for two people on each of the five carriers from any city to any city on that carriers route map. Think about it. You could travel around the world at least two times. So I called up the Thai ticket office and asked them which was the shortest and cheapest Thai flight I could get away with (I had already flown on the others). The answer was Amsterdam to Zurich. So I took a day off from work and flew the triangle Oslo- Amsterdam- Zurich-Oslo. How I spent my wonderful reward is another story.

It was during my stopover in Zurich that I discovered die cast airplanes for the first time These were mostly 600 scale Schabaks. About a year later I discovered the 500 scale airplanes with their much higher quality print. As I am a quality aficionado all my 600 scale models went into the trash immediately, where they belong. Another year later I saw the first few 400 scale models from a new company called Gemini jets and was extremely impressed. So much so, that my small 500 scale collection suffered the same ugly fate as my old 600 scale collection. Since then I've stuck to 400 scale.

The Gj 747-400 Thai N/C suffers the same problem,no upper deck windows on one side, the right side.

I have, but if I buy some of those they will complement my current collection rather than replace it
