Pictured ....Big Bird 742 N310TW released in 2005, AC B707-300 N771TW released in 2002, GJ L1011-1/100 N31033 released 1999 and GB DC9-40 N934L released 2007. The models are parked at TWA T-5 located at JFK. I plan to display this one in a model diorama show here on Long Island next weekend. The show has been around for a couple of years but it is mostly military armor and figures. A friend of mine who attends every year thought an airliner display would be unique and 1/400 would be a first, so I will give it a whirl. I'm a little hesitant, these armor guys are master builders, I not quite sure how this will fit in. Any how I thought this might be a little boost for the hobby. One problem, the ramp I made for this measures 2/1/2 ft X 3 1/2 FT, I have to build a new ramp and get it down to 2'X2'.

Steve, did you see the Saariinen building someone posted on 400SH the other day. I namechecked you as a modeller of repute and hoped he would check out your JFK models here. Good luck with the model show.

I just cut out new the ramp my T5 wing will be displayed on, 28" X 29" was the smallest I could cut it down and still look like a ramp. I am still scheduled to work Saturday, hope I can get free (cough cough).

The show is called RepLIcon XXlll sponsored by the Long Island Scale Model Society, 9am to 4pm 3/29 at the Freeport Rec Center this link has directions. 2008 RepLIcon Show Information I have entered this diorama in the "Best of Long Island" category. This category is open to all entrys that have a theme connected to Brooklyn, Queens or Long Island. This will be the first 1/400 entry they have ever had. I have to emphasize that this about the terminal diorama and not the models, otherwise I may not be eligible to enter. I finished the new smaller ramp and I think it came out better than the the one pictured here. I'll take some photos tommorrow and post them.

Well we did ok, won the Bronze in the "Diorama large composition" category. I never gave this a chance in hell with all the military dioramas. There was a little dispute, the guy who won the silver had a masterpiece with just one tiny flaw, so the judges decided not to award any gold at all and just awarded the silver and bronze. The only category I gave myself a chance in "best Long Island Theme" was won by a Long Island RR Diesel with a snowplow attached.
I learned quite a bit, this being my first show, and now I realize how hard it is for 1/400 to win here. They examined the diorama with a flashlight to highlight any flaws, I did not construct this with this in mind, so there were a few flaws not showing unless you hit them with the light. Next time I'll know better. Score one for 1/400, we had a lot of people around this one all day and lots of questions asked and lots and lots of pictures taken, everyone seemed to like it. The most common comment heard, "I have never seen anything like that before.". The L1011 won Gold in the "Commercial Aircraft" category, not mine, just thought you might like to see it.

Well deserved, Steve...that is an impressive display. That would have been a great show to attend, wish they had something like that here.
