Default Displaying a collection

My collection of :400 totals around 500 models, and then I have an additional 20 :200 models. Not one model is displayed because I've yet to discover the perfect way to display my collection (or any portion thereof), taking into consideration space in my home and cost.

I came across some pretty nice glass display cases on this site and thought I'd share.

Also, I'd enjoy reading how others display their precious planes...plus get any tips on where to get nice big glass display cases that look great in a home and are not too expensive. Thanks!

Head over to IKEA and pick up some Billy bookshelves and get the optional glass doors and shelves that go with it and maybe some lights if that's your thing:

If you're handy you can add even more glass shelves than they provide holes for.

There are some 1/200, 1/300. and some odd scales at the top of the shelves.

I display my collection with a cultural theme. Below is a sampling from when I posted International Display case #1 last year. International #2, US Domestic #1 & 2 display cases are in the works.

I use Ikea display cases for this project because they can fit almost anywhere. Also, you may want to try GEMO display cases for collectibles - glass, mirror, custom sizes for displaying your aircraft. Gemo will customize your cases if you wish. It's worth checking out their site. I plan to order from them after I move into my new condo.

Due to lack of space and money, I use 1/18 Auto case to display.

Here's one cabinet I have which I bought from an antigue store.
This houses my Australiana collection.

Nice stuff Tim, especially like the big Qantas logo above the cabinet.
BTW got your phone message, how's that link coming along. I'll try and call tomorrow.

Here is my main 1/400 display :

It currently holds about 180 models. I bought this one 450€ (including one extra shelf). It's dust free (VERY important).

A smaller one, dedicated to military and governmental aircrafts :

I bought it plain (65€), and painted it myself. Dust free too.

Both were bought from a little specialised company based here in France (Vitrinexpo fabricant de vitrines d'intérieur étanches à la poussière pour collectionneurs et pros), but I'm sure such companies can be found elsewhere.

Excellent collection you guys have.

Exciting to see Mystere's shelves. Nice and clean line up.

Fazeman. Also excellent. Love the items in every stages. Great details such as the Delphblue china clogs on the KLM level.

Im a curious person, Fazeman, what's the logo on the "silver" metal thing plate lying on its side on your Japan Airlines level. Love the Samurai sword.

Thanks to all that shared their dispay shelves. It's inspirational for the rest of us, that might re-do their displays. :-)

Hey I like the idea of posting your own pic in one's avatar...Great to see you C-Rex....noticed another pic yesterday....Is there a daily C-Rex pic

Great display units...I just assembled mine last week and will add pics here...Nothing like having your display units set up so you can just sit and stare at them all day

I'll be changing all the stuff in my living room, the new display cabinet colour that I bought about a month ago doesn't match with those items I'm planning to buy. I think I'm just gonna replace this with a clear glass display with mirrors at the back with metal frames. Gonna need to re-do my plans, and recheck the stores where I can buy the special TV table and shelves. Yikes.

Thanks to Mystére, cause his displays is my new inspirations hehe.

I'm surprised you noticed it C-Rex. It's a JAL commemorative coin that states: Commemorating The 25th Anniversary Of Trans Pacific Service 1954 - 1979 Japan Air Lines (includes logo).

To add more depth, the coin now stands against the backing behind the sword.

Thanks for the reply. I think my stepdad have one of this coins, but with PAL's instead. I think it's related to the 100th year "Philippine Centennial". I have to check next time I visit him.

About your display. Very impressive.
I like the idea of setting up items from each country that the Airline represents.
