Damn that was fast..I think it looks pretty... I mean the aircraft, not the scheme. lol

It's a little too bad as I'll be cutting off my 1:400 collection by about 2/3.

It makes NO SENSE for them to make such a popular plane a Delta company store exclusive.

Sometimes it seams like manufacturers just like to make things complicated for us collectors.

You make it sound like this is Gemini's fault. How could this be anyone's decision but Delta's?

Great heads up. I am a Delta fleet builder so this tip is good info! Needless to say mine is ordered. They say it's an exclusive release through Gemini. So we will see if our other regular suppliers get there hand on this.

At the very least it's not ridiculously overpriced. Now all we need is an MD-88, a wingletted 737-800, a wingletted 757-200, and a 767-300 to round off the new colors collection (to say nothing of the Connection fleet).

There is nothing new about an airline or aircraft manufacture commissioning a special release. This has been happening in our hobby for years. My jetBlue A320 fleet all came from the jetBlue web site store.

The price of this Delta Triple 7 on their web site is very reasonable. What makes no sense to me is when there is a new release and it is only available at an inflated price on ebay.

The 763 is already available:

I also would like a regular 772.

No it's not new, but it's not a thoughtful thing to do either. When I was in college in the US, I wouldn't have cared, but now that I live in a different country, with a much less reliable postal service, it's important to get a retailer that you can trust and that knows how to ship these models in a cheap and safe way.

I am guessing my retailer won't have this model, so I'll have to be creative to get it. I'm sure I'm not the only collector that isn't happy about this either.

You are blowing this way out of proportion...do you think that GJ had a choice in doing this? Delta DOES own the rights to their livery, logo, etc...they can do whatever they want with these models. You want to complain to someone, I suggest picking up the phone and calling Delta since I highly doubt that they peruse this forum...

I'm not saying it is the case for this GJ DL B77L release (since I don't know for sure) but in some other cases, Boeing is the one who orders exclusive models for their airline customers as a gift.

Either way, I don't think one can place the blame on Gemini.

That's funny...I'm planning on doing a custom MD-88 in the 2007 colors

Zach, I just would hope that the company who says its models are "made for collectors by collectors" considered "collectors" its priority over its big airline customers.

By the way, do you know if they will have a few extras at the Las Vegas ADI office? I just found out I might be able to pay them a visit over the next few weeks.

Zach's made it pretty clear in his previous posts that the individual collector is not the priority or where the money is made.

Even if the individual collector was the priority if an airline calls up with an order and says they want to have a model made and that they want to sell it on their website and nowhere else then what is Gemini to say? "No, make it available to individual collectors through normal distribution or we can't make it." I don't think so!

We should be happy that Delta is even selling it on their website at a reasonable price. They could have just kept it for their own internal distribution and then we'd be hunting for it on ebay for $50 or more a pop.

That seems to be the point that is being lost here. Just like with any of the other online retailers, anyone who wants one of these can just order it for themselves directly from Delta. That's what I did, and $28.00 is only a few bucks more than what one of my usual retailers would have sold it for were it a mass-marketed offering. I don't recall seeing complaints like this over either of the 762's that the Delta Heritage Museum got exclusive rights to nor with the Skybus A319. Gemini is a business, and if an airline wants them to produce models directly for the airline then fine....don't crucify Gemini over this issue. Plus, Delta has more than one of these planes on order, so whose to say we won't eventually see a Gemini-direct version of this aircraft, but with a different registration number?

Actually we do peruse this forum...and many others. Doesn't it make sense that the people who work for the airline would be interested in this hobby?

We actually commissioned this model last September. We decided to order all the pieces in this run as we are giving away approximately 400 of them to our employees at the delivery ceremony and on the delivery flight.

Since we bought them all, we thought it would be a great way to generate some traffic to the new deltashop.com site.

Other than the Spirit of Delta models available at the Delta Heritage Museum, we've never made a model exclusively available from a Delta site.

I have a couple of these and I have to tell you, they're beautiful. Hope you enjoy the model as well.

Oh...and check out our new safety video at blog.delta.com

It seems this is mostly bothering one collector that now lives in Mexico and finds it difficult to obtain models outside of his normal channels. I don't know if Delta is willing to ship internationally but it's not their fault this guy is in Mexico now. What's interesting is that when Gemini releases a lot of US based models international collectors complain that there are too many US models released and not enough of their local variety. Now a US based model is released and possibly not available internationally and we hear a complaint! GJ can't win it seems!

Oh well, my orders in. Can't wait to get mine.
