Last few month or so ago we asking the manufacture to produce this model, have any manufacture considering it yet? I'm positive that almost all collector will buy at least 1 or 2 of this model. This hobby missing this model in 1:400 scale.

But, if I was the manufacturer, I have something that bother me much: "Economy of Scale". 1. Developing mold cost vs estimated sales. 2. How to utilize the mold for multi-release outside fantasy liveries. 3. How many collector out there in this planet? I am not a bussinessman...just my 2 cents.. I could be totally wrong Peace... |

Yeah I'd buy one, even with the space shuttle on top if they wanted...
But not holding my breathe either ![]() Dan

A friend of mine once asked Herpa if they would consider making this. Answer was no for exactly those reasons mentioned by aritrixa. To be honest, I would probably get just the one, but certainly no fantasy models

You might one day see something from Model Power. I would bet that if that did occur that you saw it at WalMart that you would be horrified by its scale.

Yeap, there are two real aircraft livery possibilities, not just one!
Current: Soviet: I'd take the Soviet one for sure! I'm guessing Dragon would be a more likely candidate to produce this model, since they have already made the A300-600ST and the C-5A. aViatOr

I think there could actually be more than 2 possible real releases (like 3), but that in it's own sense would require a new mould (Buran), which too might be beneficial to develop a Energia Launch system for it too, which also would have a cost, though if someone was to make the Myasishchev M-4 it can lead to the MVT which would have tons of variants and justify the costs of a 3rd config for a Buran shuttle as well as have tons of other payloads that could be made.
But with only 1 produced, and only 2 different schemes avalible as a stand alone, I doubt we might see one from the likes of GJ/AC/DW. I'd give herpa as a skechy area since they always oscillate between no and maybe for this one, and as for 5*/BBX/Netmodels/whatever they call themselves now could be a yes, since they always seem to produce some stuff that no one else has produced for whatever reason. Otherwise, there is always that 1:700 scale version out there, I think it was all plastic, but I've seen the kits on Ebay.

You may see it in a kit form due to the size of it - but that would not satisfy the metal maniacs..

..... Be that as it may, I'm not really interested in a AN-225 model. I can't get excited. I wanted a 1/400 Boeing 314. I settled for a Corgi model of it and I'm happy enough. May not be 1/400, but I got one. Dave |

Well, if past records are anything to go by, it will most probably be DW coming out with this first - they did make the Saturn thingy, quite limited possibilities with that mould
But then as records go too, we're likely to see multiple releases from different makers of the same bird, same registration, same colours, within a week of each other ! : ) |

Oh yes, the every two months someone posts when will the AN-225 be in 1:400
![]() And every two months for the last three years (time I've been on DAC) no mfg has produced a AN-225 in 1:400. As this topic comes up like clockwork every two months, I suggest a sticky post on the AN-225.

I will buy at least one for sure, along with any well-made Russian/ex-Soviet new releases.

Curious.. maybe this has been discussed in another thread, but I was wondering what it takes to create a mould for a new model. Perhaps someone here can shed light on what goes into making a new mould and why the whole process seems to be complicated and cost-prohibitive.

Well for me it's a must have, but now that I realize the possibility of this one being made in 1:400 is zero, I don't even think about it anymore.

What is better: Gemini Jets or Herpa?
Anyone who takes this seriously is a certified doofus.

Totally depends on personal choice. I like Gemini Jets better, but Gemini is going downhill as they don't seem to have any sort of quality control anymore. They have a history of reproducing models that have major flaws. Seems like once they make something that's it for that mould. Herpa is getting better. Given curent Gemini trend I think I'd rather see the An-225 from Herpa and hope they make it all metal.

So, let me get this straight......you guys think a manufacture will produce this airframe so they can release maybe 2 versions?
Let's see....if the mould cost is around $15,000, how much do you think those 2 releases will cost you at retail ![]() I'm with Zac... Quote:
