Whatever it is, Herpa are not in the league of the major 1:400 manufacturers in my opinion. Way below the standards we have come to expect, hence why I do not consider any of their releases for purchase.

With Herpa you never know if what you get is what you see in these pics.

All I know is that their "A300" mould is an offense to my eyes - one of the worst pieces of ... this scale offers (flame me if you want)
So this could well be the 1/400 sample.

Yup, it's that cheap plastic they use. I only get some of the really off-the-wall releases they do, like the PBY and the Junkers, since no one else is likely to do them.

I've learned not to judge a Herpa model by the sample picture. I will always buy a GJ, AC or PHX model before a Herpa, but I do recognize that their quallity has greatly improved lately.

A DHL A300 is high in my wish list, so unless AC or PHX inform us that a release of this model is planned, I will get it!

I'll be getting it as it fits my collection. If someone makes a better one then I'll get that one too.

I don't care about the translucent parts. I don't sit there holding my models up to the light.

I am confident that the results will be the same. All of my (very few mind you) Herpa's have the same cheap plastic wings and tail. Even the engines look horrible. But what do you do when they are the only ones that make the model you want? -You take it and say "thank you sir may have another"

This is not as if there was NO other A300 out there. If you're patient I'm sure this one will be released at some point. If you're not, then...

Not just lately: remember their stellar A346 from a few years ago? Herpa is hit-and-miss when it comes to the 1/400 scale, but when they hit, they do it well. One of my favorite models is my Herpa American Airlines 737-800.

The Herpa PBY Catelina is an absolute treasure, so I would never agree with negative comments towards Herpa!
On the other hand, each manufacturer has it's duds (AC's being the DC-6), and Herpa's being the A-300.

It'd be nice if AC fixed that DC-6 (hint, hint), but it's actually not that bad...the big wonky motors are a little distracting, but I still like the model as a whole. Now the L-188's...THAT's a model I take issue with, it could be so much better, and there are a ton of Electra's left to do. If Herpa starts releasing them, great, they do well with the smaller moulds. But they need to release a few more of the PBY's, get out some early Boeings, old Electra's (Amelia Erhart's plane type), 214's, Trimotors and the rest...they'd do a great job, based on what's come out so far.

That unpainted translucent plastic tail is just evil. Herpa is fun because of this, you'll never know if the release you ordered is a painted plastic/metal tail or one that is translucent. If they painted the tails, I'm sure that almost all of the translucency would just go away.

As for this model, this just looks bad, might require another look though if you're thinking about it. Herpa is known to sometimes be random with those sample photos.

I agree with the second part, maybe a DC-9 is needed as well.

Thats a mighty big blanket statement, giiven that their A340-500 and A340-600 are about the best available in 1:400 scale, and some of their other moulds are excellent (Catalina and E170 come to mind).

Their A300 is not their best, but their are worse out there.

Totally agree about the Catalina.
I have two of the three.
I have the HE Qatar A300 and it's quite nice except for the grey being too light.

I agree with Unicorn also. HE have good and some not so.
Good ones which come to mind are B733 with winglets, B738 w/lets, B736, B764, A345, A346 (both are the nuts mutts) plus others.
They can't be just liberally branded as poor.

I can't wait for HE to do the Virgin Blue E170.
Saw pics of the E170 model on 400sh and it looks very good indeed.
As does their new CO B752 with winglets.

OT - AK, Will you / do you plan to release a LH A300 current scheme.

I was excited when I read the title, but that quickly turned to disappointment when I saw the photo. I'd add it to my collection (Belgian reg and all) if the flaws were minor, but that looks like it came from my dog's butt. Makes the Gemini 707 look good.

I got tricked once. What I hate about Herpa 1:400's is their almost transparent plastic tail.. *Sigh*

Not all Herpa Wings have plastic tails. The recent Lufthansa 747 1:400 has a metal tail as does the JASD 747. I might be safe to say that all recent Herpa 747 1:400 have metal tails. I do believe that the JAL 777-300 also has a metal tail.
