Re: Dedicated to waiping
Sure they are coming? Cause I need to defer my current batch of un-bought models again! If they are really coming then I am not the only person to be happy with that.
DAC Admins, how come no smilies for shaking your head in disbelief?

Excellent releases, Andrew! Thanks a million.
These are the two airplanes I actually flew with parents many times in the 80s. I am sure the models will bring back a whole lot of fond memories for me and my family.

I guess I'm still absorbing that and it hasn't sunk in yet... You bet I'm gonna place an advance order on those two MH 737s. And then, dare I wish for an MH 734 in the current livery or a F-27 in the old MAS livery?

On second thoughts, make that dare I wish for an MH734 in the current livery AND a F-27 in the old MAS livery (plus a F-50 in current livery would be nice too )

Getting a little ahead there, aren't you? One at a time, buddy! Let's just see the MH B734 first.

If MH B734 current livery approved by Mr. Klein...then I'd rather say:

.....Yes indeed! Lots of happy campers splurging on models, but the good months always are followed by the months with absolutely nothing of interest. For me a pair of Garudas stretches the budget, but I can probably imagine months ahead wanting nothing and thus, saving my money for the months of irresistable goodies. I'll have to pass on the Malaysias this month, but maybe months down the line I might get lucky to find one on eBay (when my finances are stable too).

Becareful what you're willing to give up for that model. Yes, I'd like a GA B734 too but I won't die for it.

I thought I need to order some Air Asia 737s to company the two AC MH 737s coming soon.
Btw, I think Air Asia took over all of the F-50s from MH and the planes were rumoured to be taken out of service due to maintenance issue. But then MH will be taking back the rural air service within Sabah and Sarawak so they might just be using back the F-50. The paint scheme on the Air Asia F-50 sucks! A budget paint job for a budget airliner.

Re: Dedicated to waiping
I wonder if the F50's here will even get a new coat of paint once MasWings take over in Oct. Particularly as the ATR72's are due next year as replacements.
Which means we could well have MasWings (subsidiary of MH) flying F50's in the colours of FAX (associate of AK) which is a patched over version of MH's original livery in the first place !
AK, any chance of churning out these 'variations' ? Perhaps just for the hilarity of it all !!

Now that's interesting! Not many different types of airframe can be seen here.

I was reading about regional airline services some time ago and came across Firefly, which I believe is also a subsidiary of MH, that will serve the remote areas in Malaysia. Are Firefly and MasWings the same? Or are they two different subsidiaries for different purpose?

Re: Dedicated to waiping
Yes, Firefly and MasWings are both subsidiaries of MH. But whereas Firefly is up and flying already, MasWings is only expected to be operational sometime in Oct (recruitment exercise commenced last Saturday)
Firefly is being described as serving 'regional' routes, based from Penang airport. MasWings is expected to do more of the "social obligation" flights to/fro the remote interiors within here in Borneo island - ie. the red-ink flights (!), where the govt has promised monetary subsidies to reluctant (so far) operators

Not. I normally get my dose of information from filtered news on newspapers and occasionally on a.net. However, I haven't been doing that for a long time now.
Thanks for the web link.

Thanks for the info! One more question, do both Firefly & MasWings operate F-50s only or do they have other small regional prop aircraft?

waiping, while we are here discussing MH & AK and their subsidiaries, may I ask why does your signature read, "Air Asia - NOT everyone can fly"? Bad experience? Paid too much for a ticket? Supply doesn't meet demand? (i.e. more pax than seats available?)

Hi. I pretty much forgotten about the signature. It's painful.
My mum booked a flight from KK to Penang direct flight in April i think when they first introduced the flight. The only direct route available. MH have 1 stop in KL. It was Ching Ming season, where Chinese pay their respect for departed relatives. My mum was born in Penang.
That day my bro send mum to airport at around 4am since the flight was scheduled for departure at 6am. Reaching Penang in 2hrs 45 mins. The planes was rescheduled a couple of time due to technical problem and my mum called me at 9am, 11am and the last one was 2pm. Then at 4.30pm, I thought my mum called from Penang. Instead she asked me to pick her up at the KK airport. I was really shocked.
When I reached the airport there was a huge commotion. Some of the travellers were cursing and reasoning with the ticketing staff, but true to Air Asia's principle, they do not bother. They offer only rerouting via KL (after 12 hours in KK airport) or the next flight out, which is next day. Police were called to watch over the the crowd. My mum opted for the next day flight.
At one point I thought of filling a police report for illegally confining my mum for 12 hours. The passengers were not allowed to exit the departure hall because they claimed the plane could depart anytime. Initially they were without food since Air Asia does not allow passengers to bring food into their planes, but later they were only given a small bottle (500ml) of water and one bread. Pretty much like what the police serve in jail here. My mum is 61.
After this incident I vow not to let my mum suffer like that anymore. I will fly her on MH, even if it's on Business Class!
The irony is after that a couple more issues with Air Asia flight delays were published on local newspapers but nobody, the Government, or any other NGOs took steps to rectify the issue. This is a disaster waiting to happen. The first crash here in Kota Kinabalu did not stop them from flying. So how many we need? No doubt Air Asia might be making headlines in the aviation industry, and accorded numerous awards, but good financial corporation does not necessary means responsible corporation.

Firefly is currently operating with two ex-MH F50's. MasWings is expected to assume the current FAX equipment, which are F50's and Twin Otters. The question as to how many of these birds are considered airworthy, allegedly consequence of neglect by current operator, is worthy of a soap opera script, frequently played out on the front pages of our local dailies here !

1) Was the plane actually already at BKI T2 for them to claim it "could depart anytime" ?
2) Things have certainly gone downhill since Dec - we were delayed 'only' about 4 hours then and were offered Maggi Mi-in-Cup and Nescafe 3 in 1 !! The problem then was trying to get sufficient supply of hot water for everyone at that cramped departure hall of old BKI T2 - quite funny now with hindsight !

Re: Dedicated to waiping
During the 90s, our company trained some pilots for MH. They would have gone straight on to the DH6 and F50 fleet on receipt of their CPL/IR.

Doesn't sound like it's a good idea to fly with Firefly or MasWings!

My apologies, my previous post is a bit misleading. The F50's with Firefly - have not read anything adverse about them so far. The issue is with the F50's and Twin Otters currently with FAX, expected to be flown by MasWings come Oct. More details here Log In

The plane was there and at one point everyone was onboard. In fact I had been onboard a AK flight that was about to prepare for take off when the lights just went off and the engines dead.

waiping,
Just thought I'd let you know that the current issue of airports of the world magazine has a beautiful six page article on Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Asian Award Winner). This magazine will go well with AK's new releases of Malaysian 732s.
