Question Do you add any additional detail to your Model?

Does anyone do any further detailing on their models? Having built plastic models for a 10 years, I couldn't help but to add that extra touch.

I enhanced the panel details on the wings on a couple Gemini 757's and my US Airways 737. I also smeared the ink so that it simulated weathering on the wings. Just like you see them on the plane trips!

I was also considering to drill out the exaust (APU is it???). Still thinking about it....

Lightbulb Not exactly detailing, but....

.....Only sort of modifications I do to any of the models is:
1. models with plastic landing gear: drop of liquid glue to secure wheels
2. same as above with metal landing gear except use a clear-drying contact cement
3. wobbly plastic landing gear gets glued in place
4. perhaps the most modification: a Gemini 727 lost its tail exhaust so I had to fabricate a replacement from round plastic sprue. Not perfect, but good enough. Now I have two Northeast 727 "Yellowbirds". That's OK too.

.....Going beyond that, I have a blank A319 and all I have to do is find some reasonable decals to give it registrations and perhaps a name.
.....Actually anything beyond that might well be considered damage to the model to a future collector (of course we will never give up our treasured models while alive so it might be a moot point and meaningless to us by then).
Dave (which ones will I take to the grave with me? Hmmmmmmm)

Default Not really!

I built model kits for decades and hated it . I was only interested in an excellent final result. I was never really satisfied.

Now we have all these ready made models in various scales. What a relief! Most of them look way better than I could have done. Why should I waste time and add more details?

Sometimes I cut off the tire’s burr or correct their paintjob by using some black color. Or I make a little dot if the wheel rim looks poor.

Would have to agree with all Rudi says , I try not to mess with them. I just look ..don't touch (bad things happen then)

Would like to see some pics of your modifications though .

same here. I could never reach the level of a perfect model and diecast is the best I can get.

Nowdays I just let dust accumulate on my models for added realism. It work darn good on my Air France models

I'm not sure if that would be all that easy to do with 1:400 scale models, due to their size. You might get some different answers in the 1:200 scale forum, though.

I write my name with a Sharpe pen on the bottom of the right wing.

Having collected diecast 1/24 and 1/18 cars for many years, the one thing I don't want to do is make any real changes to your models. Unless, of course, you NEVER plan to sell them. Any changes will make the model less than pristine, even if it's an improvement, and most collectors don't want someone else's sense of esthetics imposed on what they want to buy. Now, fixing damage is ok, and touching up a smeary paintjob or adding a paint dot to a fan hub that was supposed to have it will work, but don't do any alterations or modifications that will change the plane in any way from it's original manufacture. I plan to have my planes forever, but what if I get bored with some of them, or want to trade for something better? And when I'm gone, my heirs will be basically stuck with (in their viewpoint, maybe) worthless toys. Not that I really care, since I'll be dead, but you get the picture.

Interesting, but I prefer my planes looking factory fresh, at least in this scale. Building models, that's a different story, the more detail (and wear & tear) the better. Whatever does it for you. Nice job, tho...

I added an AeroClassics Braniff Calder DC-8 to the gaping mouth of my son's Godzilla monster. It kept falling out, until I Super Glued it into place.

Would be nice to add your name to a 1:72 scale F-14 Tomcat.

See, there's an acceptable modification that collectors can make to their models...

I guess Godzilla doesn't really like mustard and ketchup on sausages since you have to force them down its' throat.

Look like those airplanes suffer from a lot of hydraulic leakage...
