That's what I thought, too... The colors are too dark.

Got this one. DW has a beautiful Tristar mould, wish they would put it to more use.

I have a question to ask did United ever really use the L-1011 Tristar, or was this a fantasy model. I don't ever remember seeing this as part of their fleet, I do remember the DC-10.?

Yes, they did!

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0000541/L/

But I did a quick search on the registration and can't seem to find [N501PA] in UA colors. Maybe they did operate this aircraft [N501PA] but no pic can be found in the database. So, I can't say if this is a fantasy model. This aircraft was delivered to Pan Am and probably leased or sold to UA. If anyone knows more on this, please feel free to chip in.

And no tail seams, either. How can you have a decent L-10 model without tail seams?

P.S. If you can recall when the "discussions" on this topic were current then you've been in this hobby for awhile.

.....Well here it is! As you can see, it has been highly rebuilt, modified and repainted. N501PA lives on.
.....Oh hell, it's a Cessna 150M, a plane I hold dear as a type I learned to fly.
.....Facts 1: My 1980 "World Airline Fleets" lists Pan American N501PA to N514PA as L-1011-500 Tristars. Kind of obvious being 500s they were numbered as 500s.
.....Facts 2: By the 1996 "TAHS Airlines" there was no Pan Am and the United N500 series was Boeing 757-222s. Not an L-1011 in sight.
.....Supposition 1: UA aquired some, if not all the ex-PAA L-1011s. Although not renumbered, they were repainted in UA livery (one great livery for another!).
.....Supposition 2: The ex-PAA/UA L-1011s are nowhere to be found in service. Likely either scrapped or sunning themselves in desert oblivion. Too bad for such a great airliner.

Why a Cessna 150M? Ever considered the Cirrus SR22-G2? You'll love it!

.....Just what I learned on in the early 1970s. Always had a fondness for piloting high wings to have such a great view of what I was flying over. I don't think the SR-22s were out yet(?).
.....Funny story with a Cessna 150 is I rented one in early 1982 just after my wife got over here (from Indonesia) to fly around the Charleston, SC area. Flew out over the ocean for about 20 minutes and she not only didn't like feeling every bump with that small plane but was highly disconcerted about flying over the ocean. Took and banked a turn back to Charleston, but it was a little too sharp for her. A full breakfast splattered the cabin and we flew back to Charleston with the forgettable aroma of her half-digested meal assailing my nostrils. That also ranks as my closest approach to a flying mishap.
....My most memorable flight was flying from Guam to Saipan & Tinian and back. Was spotted after landing on Tinian near the bomb pit where the B-29s were loaded with their A-bomb loads before flying off into history. I did have a panicky passenger, but thank goodness he didn't throw up.
.....Well, at least the registration N501PA lives on if only on a Cessna!
Dave (medically grounded since 1996... what a bummer!)

I'm Going To Repeat What I Said on w900.

GORGOEUS MACHINE! HIGHLY Under Rated Release! ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Quality Tristar Model There Is! BAR NONE!
EVERYTHING Is Accurate Here. S-Duct, Wing Box Fairing, Nose(Well Not Bad), Cockpit (Reasonably), EXTENDED Wings, Tailcone, Engines & Pylons! Whew! What A List To Get Right!
And The FUKKING Thing SITS Level Unlike Some Other Brands!

3 Issuues, But Only Minor.
Color Is Off, The Red & Orange In The Chaetline Should Be Brighter, Although When This Color Scheme Gets Old...Weathering...
Top Of Fin Is Wrong. The Leading Edge Corner Sould Be Sharp, Not Rounded. The Top Corner Of The Rudder Is Supposed To Be Angled, Again It's Rounded Here.
The Cockpit Is Reasonably Accurate, But Does Need Moderate Adjusting. For One Looking From The Front, The Top Is Supposed To Be A Straight From Panel To Panel, Not a Dihedral.

FYI I Just Moved To A Basement Where I Share. i Can Only Display Models In My Room,So I Only Show 200 At A Time & I Rotate. 2 Days ago, I Pulled This Very Model From It's Box. It's Now Going To Stay Out Permanently.

I'm Going To Comment Further.
I Was Just Looking At Micheals Gallery.
This Picture Caught My Eye.
What Grabbed Me Was The Detail Of The Passenger Windows. The Aluminum Frames Are VERY Thin, And The Size Of The Passenger Windows Are PRECICELY Proportioned To The Fuselage Size Giving A High Sense Of Realism Like No Other Tristar Model, Including Other Dragon 1011 Models.
I Can Just Picture Myself Up Close To This Thing At An Airport. I Can Even Smell The Jet Fuel Looking at This Pic.
This Is What Collecting Is All About For Me. Well Done Micheal...

Just when I find a plane that Heavy is enthusiastic about, I already HAVE it....damn. I like the challenge of a hunt.

Talking In response to a question raised earlier on this thread

Years back Uniteds president and CEO Ferris was playing golf with the then president of PAN AM, Akins I believe whereupon Akins asked Ferris if he would be interested in purchasing PAN AMERICAN's entire pacific route system. Obviously Ferris was both stunned but pleased and said yes he would be interested in purchasing the route system for 750 million dollars. He said if this was a solid offer to sell that he would approach the UA board and move forward quickly. The deal included the L-1011's, 747SP's, and some DC-10's and also there would be a provision for PA pilots and flight attendants to transfer with these respectitive aircraft over to UA and thus would become United employees. Other provsions were made regarding certain other employees but I don't recall what or whom excepting for some of the employees in Hawaii.

The deal was approved by both boards and of course Crandall of American blew a gasket when this deal was announced. It is said that he asked Akers why he didn't approach him and AA with the deal and Akers response was simply this...."Pan American needed the funds quickly and you would have made this buyout complicated and would have been on a personal level too difficult to deal with." end of quote. Hope this answers some questions as to how UA ended up with some L-1011-500's and 747SP's and of course PAN AM's entire pacific route system. What's sad is that it was American who originally requested a medium-range aircraft that could seat 250-300, and they approached Lockheed with this request. The delay in getting the L-1011 resulted in AA going with the DC-10, and they never did have a TriStar in their fleet.
