I am planning to get a 1:400 Lockheed L-1011 model. I just noticed that almost all the manufacturers such as Dragon, Gemini, Herpa etc. have a wide range of L-1011 models. Now my question is which one has the best mould as they all seem to be quite different from each other and they all have their pros and cons. But unfortunately I don't have a store nearby where I can see these models so I would like you opinions as photos can be decieving. I have heard good things about Herpa such seamless tail etc. But what about Gemini and Dragon.
GeminiJets soon will release L-1011 Part II which will be far better than part I. They will release on any license-approved. Also since Blue Box have changed the owner which Andrew Klein, known as an Aeroclassy owner, which we should be seeing tonnes more of unlicense L-1011!
Hey Three Stooges, Contiune punching eachothers! Please

Hey JJ, is that true that AK took over bluebox as you said ? I haven't see any statement on the forum, when did he take over.

Sorry JJ & SL, that was someone's April Fools joke last week on a different forum!
There is nothing at Blue Box which I would want; their moulds suck, and beyond that, there is nothing to acquire!

Just say NO to Apollo400/Black Box/NG(No Good)/Panda Models/Junk-X/First Choice/C&C/IF400/Witty400/Magic/AV200/AK200/Flightline/Flightline200/Flightline400/Pegasus/Blue Angle/5stars & any BigBirds (real or fake)
The GJ I has a seem right over the tailsection, which is one of the sections which makes the L-1011 stand out of the rest. Further due to the tail is placed on top of the fuselage, and not one piece, has it no S-duct. Nose is not completely correct but okay.
The GJ II is not out yet and based on the picture I saw the only big difference is the seem which is gone now.
Blue Box tried to make a DC-10 but screwed it up so bad that they released it as a Tristar instead. Although it is a new mould, it is far times worse than the GJ I, which is almost as old as this hobby.
Herpa has a wrong nose and a fan visable in the intake of #2 which is just stupid as the engine itself is not there.
DW has the best tails of all and same goes for the nose. Overall, they have released the best Tristars. Although we haven't seen many of them and rumours go they don't have the mould anymore....

It's difficult to say, which is the best. IMO all of them are worth buying expect the first version of the Blue Box mould. Contrary to that, their mould has come a long way and improved a lot, so the latest version is ok. Personally, the DW L-1011 is my favourite. Unfortunately, there were only a few releases. If you're interested in those, there's a great ebay shop called toyhill_com, which sells some of those DW L-1011s for great prices. The first version of the GJ mould is also intersting, especially the two Delta Airlines releases.

Not everyone is happy about the L-1011's models that are out there so I guess it is all subjective.
Lets wait and see what GJ can deliver on their new L-1011 mould and see if we up end with a much better product. Especially if they give us a PAN AM.
And while we are at it, maybe they can surprise us all with a twin pack and the models be a new L-1011 and the delivery version DC-8 in PAN AM colors.
Now that would be great.......probably the best release of the year.
Or if not by GJ then maybe Andrew Klein can surprise us all with a release like I have stated above.......he caught everyone off guard with the Braniff 727-100 jellies, so why not this twin release.

Good Choice, I Have Yet To Get That One.
The DW L-1011 Is The Best By Leaps & Bounds. About 90% Accurate If You Ask Me.
Other Makes Have Failed Miserably.
Yes, I Have ONE Lousy Herpa (Air India) Tristar
And 4 Blue Box(Their -500 Is The Worst On the Market, The Nose Looks Like A Canadair CRJ) ANA100/200 Tristars, But Will Never Buy Either Again.

Rick, have you seen the latest BBx Air Afrique? Looks like they have corrected the nose, and it looks way better now.... Still enough other flaws, though... but they've come a way.

The aft section of the Blue Box L-1011 is one if this moulds weaknesses. There will be another player in the L-1011 within a few months. Not a rumor, I have confirmed it to be fact, unless the current plan is scrapped for some reason. The mould is in the development stages. I was told, and I hope it to be true, that the mould will be the best available. If true that may stir the pot and force others to also improve their moulds as well.

Lets hope the L1011 new comer will be better than the existing mould, best quality always welcome for collectors.

Well, Clippy, After Looking At Goldy's Pic, I Must Agree. The Nose IS Better! & The Fuse Above The Cockpit Is Better, Too!
Cockpit Still Needs work as Does The Tailcone 7 S-Duct, Though.
Improvements Are A Plus. I'm Still PATIENTLY Waiting For Better.
Anyone Wanna Buy 4 ANA Tristars?

The Dragon Wings mould is probably the best so far. I also like the GJ mould but the tail seam is a big problem for some collectors. The Blue Box version is fair and the Herpa version is awful. I am looking forward to the improved GJ mould and have also heard that another company plans to release an L-1011 fairly soon.

!! That is what I said. I am very much looking forward the "that other company" L-1011.
After numerous rounds of "We don't even know if Claudio is still alive", Claudio himself decided to send Hapag Lloyd a message
in his own handwriting to let him know he was still in the game.
H-L opened the letter and it appeared to contain a single line of Coded message:
370HSSV-0773H
H-L was baffled, so he E-mailed it to his partner Andrew Klein.
They and her aides had not a clue either, so they sent it to the FBI.
No one could solve it at the FBI so it went to the CIA, then to NASA.
Eventually they asked Britain's MI-6 for help.
Within a minute MI-6 cabled with Hapag - Lloyd with this reply. " You are holding the message upside down."

Oh, come on now, Happy is a good guy. I like him anyway. I like the code though. So...noh NO SSld
I expect the new GJ and the other new mould to move to the top of the list.
MY DW PAA L-1011 raised the bar right to the top some 5 years ago and nothing has come even close since then. I regret not buying the DW EAL 1011, now on that famous list of models that you kick yourself in the arse for not buying at the time. After seeing photos of the GJ reworked 707 and buying the reworked SP , I don't see their L-1011 moving to the top of the list.

Huh? Mould specific company? Why we are so desperate for a L1011 that someone sees the need to form a company just on selling L1011? What's the name? Could it be LTMC - Lockheed Tristar Model Company, just like PAMC?

I wonder how long does FBI and CIA took to figure it out before forwarding the message to NASA?
No. A company calling themselves Big Dragon Classic Jets Box.
Goldy
!!!!!!!
Sorry. Took me awhile to see this one.

You misunderstood Goldy's comment. He never said it would be a one-mould company.
