I have posted question on few other threads, No reply after month........
Now here is my question: After realize your avatar that you are against LAX expansion? May I ask why? Pros? Cons? Just curious....... Suppose if LAX redo their airport layout to similar as ATL will that solve problem and much easier access to both runways? Other Los Angelesan or neighbor counties of Greater Los Angeles wanna to comment on this? Please do. Thanks!

JJ, I was at an LAX show a while back. Eddy and I went from the In-n-Out to a local store to get more beer. I found that "LAX Expansion: NO!" sign and obviously had to bring it back with me, seeing as I am a pro-airport guy and was hanging out with a bunch more.
![]() Here's the rest of the photo. Free Nordair model to whoever guesses who the other person is. ![]() For the record, I love LAX!

The way I look at LAX airport is very hard for expansion, there are no more room unless the airport authority will have to acuire more lands from surrounding area, but for sure they will face heavy opposition from the enviromental group, LAX airport without any expansion they can not compete with growing airports like in Asian countries, look at Kansai, Incheon, Narita (they have to fight with farmers), Cek Lap Kok even Singapore it's a small island they moved the old airport from Paya Lebar to Changi long time ago for expansion and I believe the terminal for A380 almost done.
Jakarta they moved the international airport 3 times since the old days, the first was Kemayoran right in the city, they can handle up to 707, then moved to Halim Perdana outside the city limit to accomodate up to 747, then they moved again to Cengkareng west of Jakarta far away from the city, pratically the airport was built in the middle of no where. SYD airport is also small, last time I heard FAC plan to move to Bargery Creek far away from the city, but I don't know what happen. LAX is a dangerous airport, look at the runway they are to close to the terminal, runway should be far away from the terminal for safety. Many years ago there were plan to build 4 hub new airport, two on the west coast of the US, one on the central and one on the east, but is only one was build Denver, I don't think we will see the other three. |

Sanny is correct, there is no more room. Although I do believe that they do need to modernize the airport. There is no way that LAX can have an airport like ATL unless it is in the desert i.e. Palmdale. For those people living near the airport I know how they feel, because I live near one. The one that I live near is not 24 hours but when they have late flights coming in and the noise it can be diffcult, I could only just imagine what a 24 hour all stage airport can be like. LAX needs better ATCers who now what they are doing. The runway lay out is fine it is just that ATCers are not paying attention. That is just my opinion and the gates are not that close to the runways compared to Burbank and, I think SNA. Well I hope LAX and the people can figure something so they can both have a win win situation.
P.S. Baseball season starting, GO ANGELS.....Oh no wait charter flights; the cleaning, the horrible cleaning. Oh wait I don't work night anymore whoo!!! Last edited by knma'91; 03-05-2006 at 01:44 AM. |

If they can do it they should. LAX needs not only an expansion, but a remodel too in T1, T2, T3, T6, and the TBIT in my opinion.

Hey Richie, Thats a great pic. I take it thats you holding the sign, right?
As for LAX, I think that the runway layout is fine.knma'91 is correct about Burbank. The runways are right next to the gates, but worse the runways are short. They need to leave the runways alone at LAX. if they mess with them, it may effect In-N-Out, and that is one great place to eat. Double Double with grilled onions for me. I love going there when I am in visiting family. My mom lives in Palmdale just off the 138, and you can see plant 42 from her house (she lives on the hill side) I would love to see them build a huge international Airport there. They have talked about doing that in the past, but in Palmdale it seems they say they are going to something, but it never happens. |

Richie154, Thanks!
I was hoping that this picture (above) would include that "Nice UPS *** one" but that guy is an Elvis Presley. I could imagine the difficulity to expand LAX. Especially at this time. If anyone of you have been to ATL in 79's til the end of construction? Boy that was a BIG HASSLES! (Even I was an Elementary school age and could remember that well!) If LAX is to expand new airport they definately going to have to build another "LAX" new terminals somewhere beside either of two runways until the completion then tear down the ones they have now. Or build ALL NEW LAX somewhere in L.A. til completion then tear down the old one for other uses. (Same example like Hong Kong did.) That would be God Heaven Prohbit Expensive to do either of that.
