Question Jet-X PSA L1011

I looked at PSA L1011 with pink & orange with shiny belly and the front part of the fuselage there are 12 airlines logo who fly this L1011.
Is this paticular version is limited (how many) or a club model from Jet-X and the other version without airlines logo, anyone knows of this release ?

Two versions, each limited to 200 pcs. There was supposed to be a fantasy orange version too, but not certain if/when it's released.

Here is the one with airline logos: http://www.400scalehangar.net/databa...el.php?id=2919

And here is the one without: http://www.400scalehangar.net/databa...el.php?id=2918

As already said, these are two different versions. The one with the airline logos is a regular release, too. Both are available at some dealers or ebay. You can find both models in the database:

Talking airline logos on PSA L-1011

The reason for the logos on that one particular L-1011 was because back when PSA initially ordered 5 of these aircraft PSA and Lockheed the airplane manufacturer used that particular aircraft to fly around the world to various air and space shows to show off the aircraft. It was used to promote sales of the aircraft and of course give California's PSA world notoriety. Especially since several of the most beautiful and hand picked mini-skirted flight attendants went with that aircraft everywhere it went.

I believe that the world tour ended up in either one of the two largest air and space shows in the world which would have been Farnborough in England or LeBreget in France. The tour was touted as a success however sales eventually languished due to some of the L-1011's short comings (the DC-10 had greater range) and of course the Rolls Royce strike didn't help either with the very late delivery of the aircrafts engines. For PSA the use of these L-1011's was short lived however, having only taken delivery on 2 of the 5 aircraft due mainly to the fuel crisis of 1973/74 and were taken out of service after only 5 months in service and were parked in Palmdale enjoying a short lease to aeroperu and then eventually sold to Worldways of Canada.

Anyway the world tour is why that particular PSA L-1011 had other airline logos on it. And yes I believe there will be one more PSA L-1011 released but when that will be I don't know. You'll have to ask Brian over at JET-X.

Hope that this little bit of info helps and answers your question. have a good evening. WINGED RACER

So the PSA is in fact a simular plane like this:

By the way, if we ever get to see a decent Tristar mould again, than I want this one!

Thumbs up Just One More Thing

These L-1011 models of PSA however do not reflect the 'hump' just behind the nose wheel under the fuselage. This 'hump' was needed in order to accomodate the passenger lounge that was located in the area where the front lower galley and forward bag compartment were supposed to be.

Whether or not the third release will have this item, again I don't know. However to date no L-1011 model is accurate whether its blue box, Jet-x or Gemini Jets. I suppose that if anyone is interested in a true protrayal of the PSA L-1011 then these humps will have to be included.......whether by mould or by additional 'glue on'.

Oh and one additional item. Psa also had a lower 'airstair' from that lounge area which could be used for catering and emergency and also passenger boarding in the event it was used at an airport where there were neither stairs or jetways. WR

Actually, the Lockheed/PSA L-1011 World Tour wasn't such a peaceful 'marketing event'. Lockheed had went to court and sued PSA after the Californian airline had cancelled three firm orders. The aircraft (N10115 thru N10117) were already on the production line then, and the Lockheed/PSA World Tour was part of the final agreement.

The fuselage fairing is a problem for any manufacturer of scale models. I even don't know of the original Pacmin models (those produced on behalf of Lockheed for the customers' executives and representatives) had the fairing - I think they did not. Anyway, a well-designed piece of plastic, glued to the lower fuselage, would be fine.

Default What's in a name? Everything

The proper term given to this protective assembly structure on PSA's Tristars is "skid".

Gemini Jets was accurate to the degree that they at least printed the structure behind the nose gear. With the Jet-X pictures, I can't see their underbelly.

I was looking at this picture, but I can't recognize the four airline logos between Air Canada and PSA, any ideas?

Thumbs up the truth of the matter is......

The world tour indeed was a great success however as 1973 unfolded and the fuel crisis of 73'/74' came into play PSA realized that operating the L-1011 on short hops would not work for them. Additionally at the time the average fare at PSA was 30.00 or so and thus could not sustain the continued operation of these aircraft.

PSA had no alternative but to cancel the remaining orders and this in turn caused a riff between Lockheed and PSA and so a law-suit ensued.

The suit was finally settled around 1978/79 and the two aircraft which at the time were parked at Palmdale in California were leased out for a short period and then eventually sold to Worldways of Canada.

Hey, Fahee - just looked at your "400 Scale Hangar Maintained Websites" link from your signature block and found this:

Whenever you see the logo above on a website, you know that it is a trusted website to do with aircraft models!

Excellent sentence structure, Sir!

I'll give a free 1:400 model, shipping included, to the first person who corrects Fahee's assault on the English language. Post your response in this thread and if I choose your answer, the model is yours! No, I'm not kidding about this. Admins, moderators and others associated with 400SH and their friends or families are not eligible for this contest.

Wow, this is a very excellent website and I have learned already so much. How can I one day be as smart as many of you? What website is best?

I did take English in high school but not in college (I deliver pizzas and did not go to college). But for a free model I will accept the latest DAC challenge.
