Hi, Those gemini's are all good moulds. The 747 is the worst. Big Bird and Dragon have the best 747 mould. There are alot of rare models out there. They are tough to get.

There are so many rare models. it might be hard to list them. You might go to Brinkley's site and look at the release numbers. I would suggest that anything produced in numbers less than 120 might be considered rare. someone else may have a different idea.
For staters...AeroClassics first generation models. Most of them were less than 120 made and they are hard to find. Also AeroClassics Aer Lingus 767 St. Ibar (96 pieces), Aeroflot Tu-154 with Soviet flag and Olympic titles both are new generation. Most of the 400 Hangar Club models are hard to find. TCA L-1049 was difficult for me to find but I found one last week. All of the 400 SH models are 120, according to the enclosed card. A lot of the Big Bird 747s are harder to find as well. Many of them are made in numbers of less than 120. The Big Bird America West 747 seems to command some nice dollars. The rarest BB might be the Pan Am Clipper Moscow Express (the one without the "p") 90 only made. There are only 6 Clipper Moscow Express with the "p". The list goes on, these are but a few. Goldy |

Which is why some collectors don't support the Aeroclassics and Big Bird lines, frankly. When you get right down to it, the 400 Scale Hangar Club models are intended for an exclusive clique of collectors, if you will, where by only a select few are only admitted to membership of "THE CLUB."
because "THE CLUB" is full...harken back to the days when I was 8 years old and could not play in the kid's down the street tree house because you had to be a member of "THE CLUB..." GOOD FuCKING GRIEF!So here we have "THE CLUB" led by PAPA JOHN KLEIN (behind Aeroclassics, Big Birdy, and Soveriegn) wonderboy, also known as young inexperienced one trying to force the issue with producing models to a select few collectors with the hope that they will become these sought after jewels. I don't know if this is pathetic or watching collectors groveling after these. I personally respect the likes of Gemini, who happened to produce a 250th scale prototype that shows every potential to become rare and sought after one day and made it available to any collector who was astute enough to go after it and get one. I respect the likes of companies like Bader models and Inflight LE, who may limit production, but do not discriminate or exclude collectors from buying their models...for the workmanship on these models surely have set a high standard and that will be cherished for years to come. I certainly admire the model makers of the past like Aero Mini, that have let the natural course of events determine what models become the star pieces and their passion for modeling do the talking for themselves. And of course, it's always fun to watch "THE CLUB" continue in their fantasia. ![]() |

Any of the 1st round Gemini models are worth more than when they first came out 6 years ago, not counting ebay. The Gemini club models are usually 500 pieces (Seaboard 742F, 700 pieces) A GJ Braniff 741 club model recently fetched $600, I sold one of mine 5 years ago for $350. The last show I attended was the 2004 BOS show, I saw a Gemini Pan Am 741 "Clipper Juan Trippe", a Pan Am 747SP, Braniff 747SP, Royal Air Force L-1011-500, and Delta L-1011-250 all with price tags over $100.

The Geminijet Seaboard World B747 is quite rare as well, and the Dragon Pan Am L1011s, the Geminijet Pan Am Juan Tripe B747 and also the B747SP. Also the Tucano Swissair DC-10 for Buchair.

I personally don't believe that many "rare" models are indeed rare. You can find a lot of "rare" models at various diecast conventions.

The only models one could consider "rare" in this hobby are samples that never make it into production; GJ's Nalanji Dreaming B743 is a good example - there are maybe six in the entire world?
The term "rare" when applied to a 1:400 diecast model is nothing more than a technique used by sellers to separate a potential buyer from his money. Of course, there are models worth more than others but only because we collectors are willing to pay more for them. Don't believe me? Pick the "rare" and sold-out model of your choice, offer $500US for it and you'll have dozens of people falling all over themselves trying sell you theirs. ![]()

The models in question were already being produced and used by others in only 120 quantities so nothing is different except the club. In fact, there have been many releases we passed on and others (retailers) took the 120 release and sold them exclusively. Quote:
400 Scale Hangar club is no more or less exclusive than the Jet-X club, they have a limited amount of members and when slots open, they like us add members.. |

How about the gemini BA 747 Hong Kong. I bought the model when it came out for $20. Now it goes for between $100-$200.

You are talking about two different topics here. Value and scarcity. For example, i purchased an AeroClassics Aeroflot Tu154 with Olympic titles last month, it is a somewhat hard to find model, for close to the same price that I sold a Big Bird Columbia 747 for. The Columbia is very easy to find at the moment. There does not seem to be much relationship between scarcity and value when it comes to some models. Goldy |

I was watching the auctions on ebay, I had bid on them both. An Aeroflot Tu 154 Olympic ($183.00) and a Pan Am Grace DC-6 ($201.00) both AeroClassics (should tell you something about AC). Those were consistant prices as I have purchased this models several times before for less but not too much less. Goldy |

While I suppose it would be a feather for some, I am not inclined to be waiting around to join some silly club just so I could buy some model. The opposite here would be the gemini club...they offer exlcusives to members, who decide if a collector wants to join or not. So if I wanted an exlcusive model, a simple sign up is available sort of like an extra fee for the exclusive release. None of this waiting around. Something like that, at least for me, is more appealing...but then again I don't join country clubs which don't allow people who practice certain religions or are of color. Despite my successes in life, I still remain fairly grounded, despite the fact I see plenty of exclusive clubs out there, not just those airplane collecting. I just do feel I should not have to jump through hoops to buy a model, play a game of tennis....etc. Like I said before, there is alot of crap in life, and these clubs choose to have their rules, it is not worthwhile for me to deal with that. I am not that kind of person, I guess. Last edited by Flying Ace; 10-03-2005 at 01:01 PM. |
