Default BA Sample models ???

I have 7 BA 737-200 models in the world tails of poland, chelsea rose, delftblue, waves & cranes, ndebele martha, colum and one with an olympic team symbol.

Can anyone shed some light as to weather the models are standard production runs or if they are samples. Thanks for your help in advance.

Well they aren't regular releases, that's for sure!

They are either samples, or custom models, which were made by a custom maker.. There were a number of BA customs around several years ago, though I sadly missed out on them .

Chris/CPGM just had a few of these B732s offered in his liquidation sale. They were sold for $35. I have a complete World Tail fleet, but before Chris could give me any more info or pics on these models, they were sold. No clue where they come from, release quantities, quality,..

These were custom models - produced a few years ago in small numbers and very seldom offered - I am not sure who made them - but I envy you the Colum, Olympic and Ndebele in particular as I have the other four already, though the finish on one is somewhat lacking - they are transfers not tampo printing - if you ever want to sell, I have bought from you before -

A while ago, I bought a GJ 732 "Blue Poole" off eBay, and that one´s tampon printed.

I am not sure that is correct - have you confirmation from Gemini about this - the ones I have and others I have seen are certainly decalled and were not issued by Gemini - though the models may have been gemini hulls customised. Please confirm where you got this information - as far as I am aware Gemini have made four B737 - Bauhaus and Botswana, Blue Poole and Egypt - the last two having major undercarriage problems. If you in fact have gemini samples you are a very lucky fellow - but I remin unconvinced - evidence please

Perhaps someone from gemini can shed some light on this. I remember a while back there were some gemini BA world tail 737-200's available through the airplane museum or tri-star world. There was a thread posted on DAC sometime ago but I'm having trouble finding it.

Chris Sands used to make these customs. I have quite a few of them myself. Chris was a corporate pilot who had a retail site and did customs. He did quite a few BAs including 757, 737, and 777 moulds.

He was selling them for $30-$40 depending. He has been out of the hobby for over two years.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I now have the models to hand, and by looking at them very closely, they are custom models probably done by chris sands. All models are very impressive and nicely done and could almost pass for samples. They all come in white gemini jets boxes with each of the different tails stuck on each box.

I can confirm that what you are saying is accurate. I saw a lot of his work yesterday at the YYZ Show (737s, 757s, 767s, 747s, A320s). He obviously has access to a very good printer and most spend an extraordinary amount of time ensuring no seam shows on the decal (to the untrained eye it looks like tampo printing).

I wish that I had his time to do spend decaling models.

That was the same story I heard from whoever it was selling them yesterday too, I ended up buying a BA 767 "Chelsea Rose", and 757 "Sweden" from him. $85CAD total for both

It sounds to me like someone else is now doing BA customs. As far as I know, Chris got out of the business because his corporate piloting duties got much busier. If you are seeing new BA customs, then methinks someone else is providing them. If so, I would like to know who, because I would like to place a large order.

I think you may be wrong Steve.

The guy selling the models wasnt Chris - he was someone who owned an awful lot of the models Chris made and had decided to sell them. I believe he was selling them at a loss which wouldnt surprise me. I had a Gemini BA 777 Union Jack on my table all day and no one bit - price, $15 Canadian. The market is saturated.

These may have been from Chris as the seller stated he paid for them in USD from and the originator was being told by BA to stop making them.

I have a few custom BA Tails as well but these were from a company called New England Models but they went many years ago. Where they got them from I will never know. My best two are a B737-200 "South African" Tail and to top the best, A B757 in the "India" Tail. Quality is superb!
