Default Raising the bar

I've heard runours that Blue Box 400 is releasing a new B747 mould with new features like spinning fan blades and rolling wheels, in 1/400 scale. Can anyone confirm?

I'd much prefer they'd remember to paint the wing/body fairing grey, they seem to have forgotten on half of the recent releases. That's like half the plane's belly, fairly obvious.

Those crooks can release anything they want; smart collectors won't buy their junk anyways.
Not too often I'll agree with David's remarks either!

Someone else told me the same, but tell me this, do spinning fan blades, rotating wheels really matter, if you don't have a mould better than Aeroclassics, is their printing quality on a par with Big Bird (without the mistakes) or Gemini Jets? Question is do all of these things (rotating blades etc) make a better model or do they serve as a distraction from detail. Everyone has a different definition of detail and what makes a good model.

Like it or hate Aeroclassics is the Benz of the 1:400 world.

Now some of you will I am sure sing praises about others GJ vs PW vs DW and that's fine. Yeah they are all good in small doses.

But IMO AC has got a better product, without all the frilly bits, we know this. BBX has to step upto the plate and prove themselves and I am more than happy for them to do so. There is a niche for them (I think). I mean people buy Net Models don't they. People still buy Toochano on eBay.

In summary, is is not BBX who has raised the bar it was Aeroclassics/BB and they did it a while ago!! Question is BBX going to raise the bar or lower it?

Guess I am not a SMART collector then because I bought the British L1011s because they happen to be THE ONLY ONES OUT THERE WITH A SEAMLESS MOLD! So until someone else makes em, I guess I settled for less?

Carry on!

Terry, Great comments... From a retailers stand point Blue Box is doing a great job. Their models are flying out of our store right now and as long as this trend keeps going we will continue to stock Blue Box Models. I know that Mr. Klein does not like Blue Box and that is fine. Aero Classics has a great product and I look forward to many more great releases from them. Mr. Klein did raise the bar for 1:400 scale models but the bar can always go higher and if Mr. Klein does not raise the bar from this point forward then it will be Blue Box or another manufacture. We are not listed on Aero Classics website as a retailer which is strange but we sell and promote them just as much as then next manufacture. Also I agree that Big Bird models are great, we don't carry them at this time because we have not been able to get a good enough deal to retail them.

I do agree that aeroclassics still has the edge over other manufacturers especially on the props and vintage airliners, thereby maintaining the lead on that market over-all. However, with BBX introducing these added features on a 747 is something that is unprecedented. They may have screwed up on the L-1011 but has anyone here seen their 747 mould? If their quality as to detail is the same as with Dragon/Gemini/BB400, then it will definitely be a whole new era on the 747s just like what aeroclassics did on the props with its spininng fan blades. I certainly like to have my 747s with spinning blades. That just adds more realism.

I on the other hand had no luck with Blue Box models and had to discount them to my cost just to move them. I think the choice of subject has not been good to date.

I just had a close up look of these new 747s from another forum and eztoyz and unfortunately it's not up to standard with BigBird and Dragon. The spinning engines are crappy with widely-spaced fan blades and high landing gears. Well, so much for added realism.

Just say no to crap like Blue Box. However, there is always going to be a group of collectors who have no discrimination for the good stuff (OK Jimbo got his seamless L1011 so there is one exception). Those who rave about Netmodels or Blue Box remind of those who think Bud is good beer. Spare me.

In some scale model events there is a three foot rule or something similar, but in this example you stand 3 feet from the model and make it look as real as you can and skip the small stuff. In 1/400 scale I don't think we need turning fans or turning wheels, fixed wheels that don't pop off would be a good yard stick for me. This scale is just too small for that kind of detail, the efforts would be better placed in a new and accurate mould. How many times are we going to do the 747 over and over and over? A DC-4 or DC-7 with the detail found on toadays similar models would be much more appreciated, at least by me anyway.

Some words of wisdom from Steve; thank-you for your clarity! Rest assured that we are at least working to bring you some of those models you still wish for, in the best quality possible at the most affordable prices possible.
