Hey guys, ive been starring at these model planes on flying magazine for the past 6 or so months and just recently had the courage to purchase my first one 3 weeks ago, its a Gemini US Airways A330. Now that I purchased one I have others on the way, i just bought a Virgin 744 from Gemini, which should be here next week, and just joined the Gemini club. So far the Gemini club has great benefits, i just found out that they are shipping me the Champion Air 727 and South African A346 for free!, both of which i think are sold out!!
I guess you could say that i am definately hooked now. However, being that I am new to this hobby, i have some general questions, and need some advice. I take it that Gemini is one of the best( if not the best) out there, however, what other companies out there give good value, which ones should I avoid etc... I appreciate any advice i can get. Ill post pictures of my US A330 when i get my camera online and will post pics of the other models when they arrive. Thanks in advance, J. Last edited by jcrescent; 07-16-2005 at 09:03 PM. |

Welcome to the hobby.
I personally like Aeroclassics and BB, though most of my early purchases were Gemini. I think Gemini still has the best 777 mould in the business, but Aeroclassics/BB 767s and 747s can't really be beat. |

Welcome aboard! Anything you know to know will be answered on here. As far as 1:400 model companies goes the best are as follows:
Aeroclassics Big Bird 400 Gemini Jets Dragon Wings Jet-x Herpa Wings There are other spin offs but the mostly use the moulds of the top three above. Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum!!! If you need any help, feel free to ask me or any of the other team members. This site is offering a model database, where all models are listed with many informations and pics of each release. If you like, have a look at that to get an overview of what has been released so far. The link is http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/modeldatabase/.

Youthful enthusiasm at its best. Collect what you like and like what you collect. Try not to get caught up in the criticizm of the hobby. This would be my adivce.
AeroClassis (great retro examples) Big Bird (great 747 models) Dragon Wings (sometimes displays flashes of brilliance, the C5B was phenominal) Gemini Jets (best contemporary-worldwide examples) Herpa Wings (mostly European stuff) Sovereign Models (killer DC-9 and 732 models) Phoenix Models (Asian and odd ball stuff-I collect most all Phoenix Models) Watch for the occasional Green Box-Pan Am Models-White Box- Collect what you like-like what you collect. Another forum is the 400 Scale Hangar and this forum has a good data base for research and for listing your collection. Brinkley Chan has the most comprehensive site for photos of all most all models. http://www.brinkley.cc/ The better retailers are (the ones that I have bought from): Adam's Jets Aaron Supply JetCollector JetWay SkyJet400 EzToys Paradigm ToyMax who did I forget? sorry y'all. Welcome and happy collecting! Just be sure to keep 20 NM between you and any model politics on these boards.
If you ignore that and the fact these little gems cost a freakin' arm and a leg, plus your firstborn child, then it's honestly a fun hobby! Jet-X, Dragon, SMA, Aeroclassics, Gemini, Big Bird 400 and Soverign all make killer stuff.

Welcome! Collect what you like, and like what you collect.
And remember to avoid the following issues on this board: - religion - politics - who has the best molds. Enjoy, Battery H |

Good news guys, my Virgin 744 has arrived on time yesterday from UPS. The plane is beautiful, a great build, perfect paint. I cant wait for my next purchase. I think ill get the Icelandair 753, or one of those new jet blue A320's ive been seeing.
I took pics of the 744 and my US 330, ill try to post them later, but i gotta warn ya, they are a bit crappy. Im still using a quickcam for digital pictures. |

My Icelandair 753, much to my suprise, arrived on saturday, about two or three days ealier than expected! She is a wonderful model and such great detail for a smaller plane. So now my collection is up to three. Ill have to think hard about what i want next. Ive been thinking about the Aeroflot NC 763 or the Aircanada A345 or I can wait for the august releases and buy the BA321 or Thai 345, there is also the Jet Blue 320's to think about. I guess its a matter of which one will I buy first rather than which one will I buy next, or something like that. Ill keep you guys informed... Still working on that cam though.

My recomendation now is to find a second job, new girlfriend, or prepare for divorce, or get a higher paying job. You're definately going to need it. There truly is no explanation for adult men spending so much on tiny metal toy airplanes, but recognizing that you have this affliction is the first stage towards recovery. Kind of reminds me of those famous last statements from people like Yuri (and myself at an earlier date): "I'm only going to collect thos aircraft liveries/types I have flow on. Then you begin to rationalize that perhaps you should collect all the liveries/types that land at your particular airport. Then it can move on to: "Maybe I will limit myself to only US, European or Asian airliners. Before you know it, you are spending on average $250 a month and frantically scrambling to find a way to pick up the models you still don't have in large plastic containers in the garage or attic which rarely see the light of day. It's a fascinating hobby with some fascinating people, so enjoy! Carry on! ![]() |
