Default DW Varig MD-11 in a white box???

While browsing through ebay I found a new DW Varig Brazil for quite a reasonable price. What makes me a little skeptic is the fact, that the seller sells this model, which is supposed to be new in an all-white box, instead of the usual DW box. Does anyone konw something about it or even got the model with a with box. Product number is DRW55326. Could it be that this one is the corporate release for Varig itself??? Looking forward to your answers. Any help is kindly appreciated.

Are you talking about Toyhill? I picked up a JAL 777 from him and it was in a white box. Seems to be ok...the database here lists it but not with a regular (or complete) model number. For 10 bucks it fine by me.

Yes, it's Toyhill. Judging form the pic the model looks good and the price is very good, but why a white box instead of the usual one? Anyway, thanks for your answer.

They could be sample models or sneaked items from the factory. I got a few on ebay from someone in China.

Maybe it's the manufacturer known as "White Box".
We already have a Black and a Blue Box....
Isn't there a Green box company out there?

Otavio, look for the seller named toyhill_com.

I think this link might work: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQ...ZtoyhillQ5fcom

I think he's posted here before. Don't remember his username.

Some thoughts on the original question in this post; why the model comes in a white box and not the normal Dragon Wings packaging.....
I took a look at Toyhill's offerings and quite a few of his DW listings (I didn't bother with other brands) came with white boxes, not just the VARIG MD-11 that British Airways has his eye on.
HongKong is a sensational place to get these kind of models. I suppose it's because it's close to the factories. Maybe, if you knew your way around and spoke the language, Shenzhen, over the border where I believe the factories are, would be even better. There are dozens and possibly hundreds of places to buy diecast models in HK. Most are in not so easy to reach locations and very few specialise exclusively in airliners. There's one great little shop in Wanchai (close enough to the bars) that is primarily a paint store and sells Gemini and Herpa model planes as a sideline. Go figure!
Somewhere in all of this, some stock must get damaged, some outlets may go out of business, some may want to shift their older stock. Space in Hong Kong is at a premium because of the lack of it and because of the rents charged for it. Possibly Mr Toyhills has contacts, sources and local knowledge and gathers up some of this fallout and puts it on eBay for our benefit. His listings do seem to be older models. Possibly the original boxes have deteriorated in the horrible humidity in HK, after being stored in less than ideal conditions.
I wish I could get some white boxes for some of the models I've got without a box. I got a few samples that are just in plastic cradles and one or two other oddballs in the wrong boxes!

Hi British Airways,

The VARIG MD-11 is not a sample, it is a DW past release. Its reg. is # PP-VRG and I already have it in my collection. Thatīs a great model and I highly recomment it.

I do not know why Toyhill is offering it in a white box. Now I remember when I purchased it I received the model without box only with its inner plastic protection. And I also got it from a guy in HK.

Here you can see a link to this model: http://400scalehangar.net/database/v...el.php?id=1709

Hope it helps buddy.

The MD-11 in Varig's colors simply looks stunning. I'm not sure, whether to get this model from ebay, but I'll definitely have to get this one. Btw, there were sowe Varig Corporate releases from DW. I've heard they were available through Varig's frequent flyer programm. Is that correct?

Yes Michael. there is 3 VARIG corporate releases and they are very rare. All of them were released by DW in 2002 ( I am not 100% sure ). These corporate releases were offered to VARIG Rio-São Paulo Air bridge passengers to to VARIG Smiles frequent flyer program. At that time everytime you got the VARIG Air bridge between Rio and S.Paulo one model would be yours. For free! Thatīs a shame that at that time I didnīt collect aircraft models yet.

The models are a 762, MD-11 and a 733.

I got the MD-11 and the 762 and I suppose they will arrive here in the next week. As soon as they arrive here I will post pics of them.

Unfornatuly VARIG hasnīt it anymore, even for sale.

That's bad news. My father is currently in Brazil and I asked him to look out for those Varig releases, as he flew with Varig from Frankfurt to Rio. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your pics. Great that you got those corporate releases.

There was a 733 on eBay a month or two ago that didn't sell for 49 or so.
