I hope stevej doesn't mind my jumping on his bandwagon, but I received my copy of the China Clipper II yesterday and wanted to add some pictures. This model is very impressive, and I wish the pictures could do it justice.

I had a scare when I opened the plastic bag holding the nose gear and dropped the gear on the floor. Of course, I couldn't find it, and imagined it being stuck between the treads of my tenny-runners; or crushed under the wheels of my chair; or picked up by the puppy, who has an affininty for little plastic parts, which usually end up full of little tooth holes. Thankfully, the gear was found safe. Sometimes I think it would be less stressful if I took up live-grenade juggling as a hobby!

Another great model! I wish I could go back on the roof!
The roof, as I and a friend used to call it, was the place to view aircraft at JFK.
I started around 1983 shooting prints at first then slides. During the summer months the prevailing winds are from the south/southwest so take offs from 13 right can be viewed nicely except for glare from a setting sun. During Winter months 31 left affords great views except for sun glare when the sun starts to set. By the 1990s things got worse for people like me. A new fence with wood slats to obscure viewing was installed. Although my license plate was recorded everytime I left the parking lot, what really got to me was when security started telling us we could not take pictures. By this time, I avoided the roof and only shot from Rockaway Blvd. or the cargo area near 13 left. Today I would not park my car and shoot inside the airport like I did years ago. The police and public are too paranoid of anything that could be thought of as a terrorist threat. I guess I don't blame them but even in the early 1980s it was and continues to be an uphill battle to enjoy aircraft photography.

Just received mine too. Really hate that the 74's are arriving without the nose gear already in place.

Awesome model. The DW version I have doesn't hold a candle to this one.

BTW, awesome pictures and fantastic Worldport.

Thumbs up Where's my LARGE BLACK TITLE Pan Am 747

I am still waiting for BIG BIRD to come out with the late 70's version of the Pan Am 747 on THEIR MOULD. GEMINI came out with one 6 years ago but I want one on a better mould, BIG BIRD would fit the bill.
