Default Fedex A310

I will be getting this one, although I hope they get the winglets right.

Of course, pigs might fly too (and not in the holds of cargo planes)

Wink

I would love to see one from Herpa400. I can't stand the big seam from the wing on DW mould.

Does FedEx have both A310-200s and -300s? The A310s I always see at IAH are -200s and don't have any winglets. Personally, I wish they'd make a -200 since their winglets look so bad on their -300 mould......

Yes, both versions, very few 300s.

But you can't tell a A310-200 from a 300 because of the wingtip fences. Some 200s were fitted with them, too - just take a look at HF A310s.

FYI None of the A310-200's that I've seen in MEM have winglets..
with GJ doing an A310-300... I pray that DW doesn't...

All (both 801 & 802) of our -300's are based out of CDG. The only time I saw them in Memphis was prior to entering revenue service. I understand that we will be getting 10 more -300's this year, so hopefully we will see them in MEM more.

You were not seeing things. One came through a few months back as a promotional tour to all of the feeder cities that will being recieving service, sort of a "meet and greet" for the newest feeder type. Since then, I have heard that there is some kind of delay with entering service due to either a certificating snag or a P to F mod snag. No one seems to know for sure when we will start to see them on a regular basis.

No pics as far as anyone I know, however there was several photographers there snapping away. I think Empire Aviation is either assisting with the mod, doing the mod, or will just be the launch Feeder operator, so you may want to check their website. It is either Empire Aviation, Empire Airlines, or Empire Air Cargo.

Thanks for the site link for Empire. Did you see the picture of the line of pre-modded ATR's on their ramp? Pretty cool. Thanks for the PM. I am bad at checking for messages. Are you guys on the ramp excited about the 737's?

We are going to retire the 727's as they come due for "C" check. We are going to replace them with 737-300/400's. Most likely from US Airways. I am not certain when, but I know that Maintenance Training is starting to put together a training course for them. There is a fellow collector here who is also a AMT and he lent them his Flight Safety training manuals for them to develop a rough outline.

Hmmm I figured that the way they had pushed the 400 gates away from the Super hub, and started mixing Airbus' with the 727's, that they were just not going to worry with the smaller jets and just go up to the wide bodies... That will be soo cool to see some 737's there.. but It will be sad to see the 727's go...

I noticed that currently we only have 2 flights using the 721's... so whats the word on these old Flying Tigers... are they going to make it to the end of the year??

I don't know how much longer the 721's will be around. I wouldn't be suprised to see one or two lingering around for peak, but their days are definately numbered. I cant see the Valsan 727 being parked anytime soon. They are relatively low airframe times and perform more like a Ferrari than a 30 year old airplane, but you have got to wonder that if we indeed replace the 727's with 737's, how cost effective would it be to keep a small percentage of pilots current on the dozen or so Valsan birds. But then again, when has fleet conformity ever been in the FedEx vocabulary?

Ok…now my ignorance is going to show.

when refering to the Valsan birds... are you refering to the 722's with the larger DC-9 jets??

Sorry, yea that is EXACTLY what I am talking about. They have the big engines on the pylons.

Do you think we will ever get a collectors show here in Memphis or are we destined to drive to Dallas and Atlanta forever? You would think with FedEx and Northwest both having a major hub here, and the NAS Millington folks, the turnout would be pretty good. Look how packed the airshows are here!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know, But I'm thinking about trying HARD to see if I could convince someone (either a manufacture &/or a store) to try to put up a booth at the next air show in 2005.. Don't know if anyone would be interested.. but I was going to give it a shot...
