Default 1:400 Tu-144

O.K. now that we have our second rate Concorde out, how about the CHAMPION of the SST race, The TU-144!!!!

This would look good beside the other B.A. and air France lawn darts.

And while we are doing TUs... A -134 wouldn't be too bad either.

I'd take each and every Ruskie...
The Tu-144 was a great looking bird, but it was nothing more than a big constructional error:
- engines had to run reheated during supersonic cruise--> high fuel consumption, very restricted range (Moscow-Alma Ata was the longest leg it could go). Concorde was designed to travel "dry" during supersonic-cruise.
- 144 was very unstable (note the canards/stabilators that had to be extended till higher supersonic speeds were reached), such instability is welcomed on a high-agility jet like the Eurofighter, but not on a large pax aircraft...

Ok, the 144 won the race, but the paid price was high, too high!
It was simply unusable.
Talking about shape, the 144 beats out the Concorde.

For fun (we do need funs instead of pains), here is the summary of preferences:

TU-144 (4) Richard Heteny / Jet-X / Romania is #1 / Phantom
TU-134 (2) R. Minor / jjorgemiami
TU-114 (3) aklein707 / Piarco / Yukon 880
TU-104 (1) freewing

As many people in this thread, I love all Russian birds (include all countries in the Soviet Union) as well as Britain birds.

United Mainliner, BOAC, TWA twin globe), Delta Widget, Pan Am, American (astroJet (or would it be StratoJet)), Air Force One, Continental (pre-gold tail), Northeast, etc ...

for instance: Boeing 2707-100 SST

RIGHT ON!!! 2707-200 swing wing! Sure it ultimately was a fantasy, but it really put the focus on Seattle in the 60's and made Boeing out to be the big-boy innovator they were seen as by the public for the following 40 years...
