I've got a trip to Vietnam tomorrow and have layovers along the way or way back at Taipei, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul-Inchon, and Tokyo-Narita.
Does anyone know if there are any shops at these airports that happen to have a decent selection of 1:400 planes (that aren't outrageously priced)? Thanks! Steve

Look for NIKKO store in Singapore. I'm not too sure about the pricing but I guess they are good IMO. I think they have more Dragon on their displays though rather than Gemini. In Taipei....no such luck for me finding a store that sells model planes inside the airport....but I do visit Airshop(located outside airport) regularly when I go there.

Sadly, there are no Aviation Collectible shop at ICN yet...
There are some off-line hobby shops in downtown Seoul, but none at the airport... You might find some stuff with Korean Air logo on it like (Buses, staircars, catering truck/All different scale/more like children's toys, but some would go with 1/200 models) |

SIN has an OK selection with a decent amount of Herpa's in NG and OG, but I think you'll find a lot more Schabak 1:600s. That's T2 at least, T1 might be different. I wouldn't know, haven't been to that terminal in years.

Actually the Nikko shop was once in Millennia Walk, the shopping centre beside Suntec City. But that outlet closed down some time ago. I managed to come across it by chance though, it is now located in Wheelock Place along Orchard Road, 2nd or 3rd floor..i don't really remember..but ITS THERE..I can confirm.. ![]()

I just came back from BKK. Found a great shop in MBK Centre. Its a shop called ToyStudio.
Got some funny address from airliners.net regarding the same shop..walked a whole damn day to find it. Found it, and the address was wrong. ![]() The CORRECT addresses: Shop 1: Rm. 2A-17, MBK Centre, Phayathai Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok. Shop 2: Rm. B409/1, Central World, Rajdhamri Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok. They have a membership scheme which gives you a 10% discount on purchases. If I am not wrong, they will give it to you when you spend 5000 Baht or more in a single purchase. Prices are reasonable..i think..i got a 1/400 scale Airbus A380-800 IN TEST COLOURS (something like this, but w/o the SIA paint scheme) for 1485 Baht (roughly SGD67) after the discount. Not advertising here..just recommending a shop to anyone who might be interested in looking for models over in BKK. Happy shopping!

We should have a page for "active" model shops worldwide, one that collectors here can check up, and if some of the shops gets shutdown over time, then our admins could just edit it. and remove them from the active list. Quote:

Went through the new terminal three at Singapore (saw both A380's, very nice terminal) on Thursday night 20/3 and the only place selling 1:400 scale models airside was the toy store. They had the Phoenix A380 in SIA colours for just over S$100

Well..I am not really sure about models sold over the internet because I don't usually buy stuff online..but is USD48 considered expensive for a 1:400 model? Please enlighten me..anyway..I'm not really sure that company made my model since I can't find any company logos or stamps on the box.. If I my research is not wrong, it should be by Dragon Wings.

NRT also has a toy store in the shopping area in Terminal 1 before immigration, selection limited to Japanese airlines . Some of them not sold anywhere else, however, prices were are not that good. An ANA 777 for U$ 70, and so on.

Went through NRT last week. The toy store in T1 was expensive, but the model store upstairs between the two international terminals was good, and the prices reasonable. They had a good selection of planes that service NRT (Japanese and others), but none that fit my collecting criteria that I didn't already have (I was with the financial controller so had to be good)
Also found a good selection at Top Gun in Akihabara (managed to finally get a Heavylift An124 for a reasonable price) |

Yup, ToyStudio is a great place to go for models in BKK. Picked up a few TG models there last year. Depending on how long your going to be in Bangkok, you might not be able to make it, as MBK Centre and Central world are located in downtown Bangkok, quite a drive from Suvarnabhumi, especially the traffic. Enjoy your trip!!!
Cheers! Quote:

There are no model shops at BKK.
I have to agree that Toystudio is a great shop, though their prices are at the high end of the scale. |

My mistake. I assumed you meant the airport.
I'd be interested to hear about the other model shops in Bangkok (City). |
