Talking Cathay Pacific or Dragonair?

Cathay Pacific and Dragonair are the two main passenger airlines in Hong Kong.

In terms of service quality, you like Cathay Pacific or Dragonair more???

I've flown Dragonair before, not bad as I recall, the food was OK, but then again I spent most of the flight (Beijing - HK, A330-300) sleeping. Oh and Evanescance are boring, I know DAC isn't exactly the height of cool, but do you have to make it worse for us?

DAC isn't the epitome of cool, Nick, but 'gothic' is pretty passé too, nowdays!

Amen to that and thank.....GOD?

Evanescance are nu-metal anyway aren't they? The only goth thing about them is the eye makeup.

wow, post a minute here...rest assured I will kill my "abducted soul" as soon as I find the abductees and reclaim ownership of said soul...all in due course.

this is WAAAY off topic, so back to it. Dragonair I believe is part owned by Swire (who own Cathay) and share booking agents and possibly maintainance. Cathay are good + part of Oneworld, so i'm sure you can't go far wrong with either.

Dragonair is nolonger part in the Swire Group and their relationship with Cathay deteriorated with the Cathay applications to re-open China routes...

China National Aviation Company Ltd. 43.29%
CITIC Pacific Ltd. 29.35%
Swire Pacific Ltd. 7.71%
Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. 17.79%
Others 1.86%

Personally in terms of IFE, CX is better but in terms of Cabin crew quality KA is far ahead... you guys think CX is good because those crews in CX always treat White/Western people better than Chinese... Usually when a Chinese requests for something, they need to ask for many times and the crew will black face to handle it...

I have flown both of them and like both.

The collections of CX and KA are almost done if we have CX B773 in 1/400. Waiting ......

Hahaha~ No you are not alone. I prefer KA over CX... if I must fly to elsewhere that not covered by KA... I will choose other carrier than CX because CX fare is more than others in Hong Kong... and also their service to us isn't as what they advertised...

I am not sure why so many people in Hong Kong are so dissatisfied with CX "discriminating" Chinese...or should I say "Hongkonese"? I am not sure if that is just an Urban Myth, just like some Taiwanese praise EVA air over China Airlines all the time while I find both terrible....compared to Cathay

No, we are still missing quite a few models in 1/400:
1) A330-300
2) A340-300
3) A340-600
4) B777-200
and finally
5)B777-300

We are totally missing Dragonair in 1/400!!!!

Answering your other question: no, you are not alone praising Dragonair. I think their uniform is formal yet sexy at the same time...and all their cabin crew can speak proper mandarin, unlike CX cabin crew, who sometimes bring the wrong stuff to mandarin-speaking passengers!

anyways....

I haven´t yet flown on either airline, but the CX colors are cool, and their phone hotline is EXTREMELY FRIENDLY.

Not at all like Virgin Atlantic, to speak out loud!

both services r sucks. Their flight attendants who regard themselves r beautiful always wear very anyry faces to serve passengers in economic class esp those from HK. I am totally agreed with Louis that HK ppl have to ask serve times to get what they want.

I had took a flight from Osaka to HK on a JAL DC 10, those Japanese flight attendants services r good even in economic class. Even, when u travel in Japan, you can feel n enjoy the hospitality of Japanese.

If i have choice, I would choose JAL, SQ & Thai over CX. I hope the open up sky policy of HK could bring us more choice in future.

CX n Dragonair lets Learn something.

I wonder why CX's aircrafts do not has HK flag, but a swire logo. How dare they say "Hong Kong is their Home"

Absolutely correct. The service of SQ, JAL & ANA is far better than CX. I fly a lot to Taipei and I prefer Eva to CX.

I don't think CX's service is that bad as told by some board-mates here...

I have traveled on 2 round-trips so far by CX. One was to Taipei and the other was to Singapore.

The service provided was nice. Food was nice, crew was polite and friendly and kept smiling all along (it's company policy, no matter if it's really straight from their hearts). IFE is excellent as I can say. After these 2 times of flight, even though some short ones, IFE is so important to me as I traveled on TG which doesn't have IFE system having bored me to death.

I don't think crew are discriminating local HK pax as long as pax are remained """polite""". Crew members are busy running all long in the cabin and that takes some time to serve all requests. I think they attend pax within reasonable of time.

As I heard from other groups, CX economy class service is some first class service in airlines in the West. I don't know if it's really that exaggerated. But I can tell CX service is not bad at least.

I cannot compare KA's service as I didn't take it b4. But it's definitely a choice when choosing among Chinese Mainland carriers.

This is one of the most pointless polls ever. And that's saying alot with the quality of the polls we see around here.

What strikes me most is that this is a 2-year-old post.

Like Matt said, who cares? I would never care to bother either airline if I wanted to go to Asia. And I guess that goes for most of us.

Well.... you might, since Dragonair only flies freighters to Europe...

Anyway, Dragonair rules! Dragonair Cargo even more!

Since I have flown neither airline,
I guess my decision would go down to the willingness of the female flight attendants!
You can read into that what you want!

Surprise, surprise. As I recall CX was voted the best airliner in Asia for a couple of years straight by Skytrax? Now some of us got nasty treatment when flying on economy. Kinda like MH. Do you believe you actually get less food flying domestic on a B737 compare to a B777 or A330?
