Default Pakistan 747-300

Announced by www.aviationretaildirect.com in one of their adds a 1/400 scale Pakistan International airways 747-300 made by 'Sovereign' . Never heard of the company, and the add didn't have any pictures. Anyone have any more details on this?

Hmm.. I just searched the site and couldn't find this model. The only PIA models they had instock were the two Aeroclassics.

Anyway, personally, I'd rather have a n/c 742 as it has the green color belly - which the 300's don't have. Or an o/c 742 (with the gold cheatline) would be welcome as well

Looks nice. It looks like a Gemini Jets mould...

I like to see Rolls-Royce engine on B747-200/300, and I'm waiting to see the following airlines in B747-200/300.

1) Cathay Pacific
2) British Airways
3) Virgin Atlantic
4) Saudi Arabian

I agree with "Spidy" it does indeed look to be a GJ mould, although this appears to be a seamless G2 variant. The undercarrige and the pylons appear to be very GJ as well. While this looks to be a rather nice release however at around $42.00 for an uninspiring livery (not including S&H from the UK), well, I'll pass.

Now as to who Sovereign Models are excatly? I too would like to know. Anyone.........?

Looks pretty nice. Well I've sent off an email to this company asking for more info about their whereabouts so hopefully they'll respond... Though I have to agree with Thomas, the price is pretty high. Especially since it's limited to 1000 units.

I would love to see Aeroclassics make this model. They're the only ones with a decent 747 classic mould. I'd also like to see an Air-India 743 (and Varig, and Cathay, etc).

Question

Looks nice? Check out the wing/pylon junction, that looks a lot like the less-than-impressive wing/pylon junction on the GJ Corsair 747-300s. There appears to be a kink at the leading edge outboard of the outer engines, and that's something that if I'm not mistaken Tucano lacks (being the aviation brain trust that we all know them to be nowadays) but everyone else correctly depicts.

Actually, I was reffering to the livery, more than the mould. Personally, I'll wait for better pics (probably from Brinkley) till I make a judgement on the mould..

Nothing new here...mould quality is fair, printing looks ok, livery selection is a bit underwhelming...it will sell well in the UK (lots of expatriated Pakistanis), but the dollar/pound exchange rate + shipping costs will hurt sales in the US...at least it doesn't stink of another Tucano ploy, and if they are really throwing their hat into the 1:400 ring, then I welcome it...look what more competition did for us this year. Think about even more quality models...

I just learnt from Sovereign that this will be their own mould. It has nothing to do with GJ or DW.

The wings will be made of metal.

I have also been notified by Sovereign that they plan on releasing models that have not been done before.

Let's hope this mould is as good as the GJ II mould.

This model has just crossed my door. I am absolutely 100% sure that its the Gemini mould... No tail seem (GJ-II), but the dodgy pylons are identical to those on the Corsair 743s, and the raised and recessed lines on the wings are also in exactly the same places and raised/sunken in the same places. Wingbox/wing insert is the same, gear is the same, it even has those same lines printed ontop of and below the horizontal stab. See-through cradle in the box is also exactly the same as a Gemini. The only difference is the supposed Roller engines, that I'm not entirely sure are correct.

So, in my opinion its either a Gemini in disguise, or Gemini are dumping off all their old stock of dodgy moulds to someone else, after the hoo-har about the Corsair pylons.

This model was actually announced quite some time ago - a couple of months, infact. The email newsletter from ARD featured it some time back.

I'm sure there has been a post about this before.

I planned to buy it,the moud is good, detail on par with GJ,DW etc,but that wing/pylon junction is awful - put it straight back in the box, nasty!

Default Sovereign Models

Ah well...............

Perhaps they are not the most perfect of moulds, but for some collectors, this may be the only chance to acquire a much longed for release.

The Gulf Tristar is one which many in the hobby have waited for, and if it is not exactly perfect, its still a long way better than the previous model, ie none.

For people who collect something other than the largest US, European and Asian airlines, smaller distributors such as these may be the only way to see liveries and airlines which otherwise might be ignored.

I could name 20 airlines who I would love to see, but am not likely to see from the majors anytime this decade. If Sovereign or someone similar makes them, then I will acquire them, despite their occaisional flaws, because the alternative is not seeing them at all.

Default The Tristar is a must!

But the 743 pylons freak me out. It's like tthe Corsair's 743s. What a shame. Really wish they owuld fix those.

Default 20 airlines I likely won't see from the majors

I don't think that Gemini or Dragon or Aeroclassics will be racing to do the following 20 aircraft / airlines combo's I would buy

AirAsia 733
Agean 734
Freedom Air 733
Volare A322
Air Pacific 763 or 744
Air Nugini A310 or 763
Air Mauritius A333
Cameroon 752
Ethiopian 763
BMI 733
Hola 733
Qatar A300-600R
Sahara Air 737
Compass A300-B4
Trans Australian 722
Air Paradise A300-600R
Pluna 763
Air Greenland A332
TNT 733F
China Air A300-600R

and while we are at it, how about a few less "off the beaten track" releases, these are major airlines for heavens sake....

Alitalia 763
Air France 733
America West 733
Air New Zealand 733
Qantas 738
Virgin Blue 738
Avianca MD83
Brittania 752

and the list could go on and on.
