Default Airport Mat from google map?

So I am wondering if there is a way that we can use the high res overhead images from google map to print out some sort of custom made airport mat maybe on just paper? would be nice to be able to do that. I am not advocating for a mat of the whole airport ground because that would be too much but maybe part of the terminals

It's not hard to zoom the images to the correct scale

The last time that was tried, the surface wasn't hi res enough to be viable. Plus, I believe there was google watermarks everywhere. However, if things have changed, then I don't see why it couldn't be done. You just need a lot of paper and ink. Try it out and show us your efforts.

Hi wildpig,

You can do this. I did it. You need to consider something.

Make a screenie of the area that You want. The more it fits already to the scale 1/400 the better it is, but I always needed to do a rescaling.

Cut the image to a standard paper size (e. g. US letter)

Enlighten the image with e. g. an Image editing tool. The screenies are mostly too dark.
- Goto a copy shop and print out Your ground foil onto a 200g paper there for less than two Dollars I would guess.

You need to do some trials in order to find out the picture fits to scale 1/400.
Compare e. g. a printed image with a plane on it to a 1/400 scale model that You have. I used b/w print on a standard paper e. g. 80g, that's cheaper.

Best regards,
Jan

Yeah, I was just brainstorming and didn't know if anyone tried it..

My other project right now is making a figurine 1/400 scale to put next to the planes for size perspective. Trying to find if possible to 3D printing of a 4.5mm x 0.8 mm figurine.
