Exclamation Why has everyone forgotten about...

World Airways OC? No one ever requests these. I'd really appreciate a DC-10 from someone!

I remember seeing these at LAX in the 70s and 80s.

They had a pretty sharp looking DC-8 also.

Who could say no to a 727 like this?

mmmmmmmmmm 707!

I'm as 747-ed out as anyone, but I'd certainly buy one of these. Weren't they a launch customer?

I'd be first in line for the 747, even if it meant an overnight door-front wait. I flew on World's 747 from somewhere in California to Honolulu MANY years ago, and since I collect only the models of planes I've flown on, this has long been one I thought I'd never get (along with South Pacific Island Airways). Glad to see someone else is interested in it. With that, there's hope.

Cheers,

BB

PS: My clearest World Airways memory: They would not allow me to carry on my portable typewriter, and made me check it in. When we arrived, it came around the baggage claim rotary in countless pieces, useless forevermore.

Remember the World Airways 707 in the movie "Skyjacked", starring my favourite actor, Charlton Heston??
Yes, aside from the bland colorless MD-11 GJ/DW produced, WO has not been seen otherwise in 1:400 yet!

I have been asking for a model in the old World Airways colors for years. My favorite is the stretch DC-8 but a B707, DC-10 or B747 would be great as well.

I may be wrong, but I thought it was Oakland since they were based in Oakland and were considered "The Bay Area Airline" in Ads back then. The World Charters had both the "Niners" and the "Raiders" as passengers at different times as well as "wet lease" to TW and UA.

Another Trivia Fact is World started the No Frills $69., $79., and then $99. r/t Fares between East and West Coasts which Peoples Express eventually started years later.

Very TRUE about Raiders / Hawaiian Currently which is a A Great Sight To See a Hawaiian in This Part Of The Country!! If the Card wasn't with Niners or Raiders, then it's Gotta be The Rams even though United has their biz today!!

I'd love to see a stretch 8 in the old World Colors. I flew on one of them between MSP and SNN in the mid-70's.
