Default PLEASE HELP: identify Manufacturer

Greetings DAC people,

First of all, I'm not a DAC enthusiast, my cousin is. He is a 737 pilot that lives in New Zealand. I screwed up two years ago and lost the box for a plane that he had shipped to my house in the United States, and when I showed up with the plane in New Zealand with no box, he told me just to keep it and was clearly disappointed. He wouldn't tell me how much it costs so I couldn't pay him back. I'm now trying to fix this, because I still feel like a jerk every time I see the thing sitting on my desk at work. I need to source another model but he won't give me any info on the model that I ruined (at least in collectors terms, I think it looks sweet on my desk).

The diecast plane I have, and need to source in mint condition, is a 1:400 scale (I think, it's about 6 inches long) Cathay Pacific 747 with the word "B-Hoy" written on the bottom one wing. I have found many similar planes on ebay and aliexpress but they always look slightly different (and not as good as this model) and I don't know who the the manufacturer of this model is.

Can anyone on this forum identify the manufacturer base don these pics? If not, can I take other pics that will help?

Thanks in advance!

SDGuero

UPDATE: I think I may have found it... I cna't post a link to ebay because this is my first post to this forum.

Similar marking on the wings and engines. Does anybody else think the manufacturer could be "Magic Model"? The post is in German so I'm not sure what is going on exactly. Thanks again.

G'day,

There are five possible makers of this model, here is a link to the database

Wings900 Model Database - Advanced Search

I suspect from seeing the bottom of the model it is a "Magic Model" simply because of the wheel arrangment. If you want to replace it, I would recommend The Apollo model or Big Bird as neither of these models suffers from "Zinc Rot" something that ALOT of Magic Models suffer from. (The metal of the model deteriorates, the paint bubbles or gets spotty lumps and eventually the model breaks apart).

Good Luck.. tho often they appear on ebay

Apollo version

Dream Jets

Cheers Lou

Your model is made by BigBird400. It shows 400 your craftsman on the box. It's actually the most valuable version of all.

Lou, models made by Magic has actual "mould" for the vents underneath the wingbox. Bigbird400 has these vents just printed on it. Just as the picture shown above. BB400 actually got the color wrong. The light blueish on the fuselage supposes to be green. Magic got this correct.

Wow, thanks for sharing all that valuable infomation, it's really appreciated. I always thought that BigBird always had "400" on the belly. Did I get that wrong..!

I'd just add that you really should avoid buying Magic Models, especially the one in Germany on ebay. Found it and its overpriced by about double what it should be (and that's on the higher side). Best to stick around and wait to find a Big Bird 400 (which will cost around the same as the Magic on currently on ebay).

Cheers Lou

Thank you so much! I will start searching for the correct manufacturer now. I nearly bought the Magic Model last night. Glad I held off...

Thanks again to everyone for your replies. I've been active in some other forums n the web and was hoping this was one of the better ones. Turns out it is!

You guys are making me want to start collecting just so I can participate in the community.

Not all of them got the "400 your craftsman" printed on the belly.

I would avoid Magic either, due to their poor metal quality.
For this particular CX Asia's World City I got the Dreamjets version. It got the most accurate color on the fuselage (rather than the offical Herpa version). Apollo version is also really good and its price range is acceptable. BB400 is ok but way too expensive and got the wrong color.

Never hear of, or seen reports of, Magic models suffering from zinc rot. I have a Magic Models Olympic 747 that I've had for years with no problem whatsoever.

Hey guys,

After keeping an eye on ebay, I saw this popup today (see next post, my third so it will accept a URL).

Any opinions on authenticity? Should I get this as a replacement for the one I lost the box for?

I'm a little worried about box condition but I"m not sure how much that matters to value of the model.

Thanks again!

Yes this is the exact same one you have in hand. It's pretty rare so catch it if you can!

G'day,

Definitely go for it... The box has alittle storage wear, but is definitely in good nick. I've received models with boxes in much worse condition then this one is in. I wish you luck in this purchase

Cheers Lou
