Default Ran Out

What would you do if you ran out of shelf space, stop collecting, just buy limted planes(1000 a piece),hang some from the ceiling, use your wife's dressor, rotate stock and keep some in the boxes, put new shelves up in the kid's room or garage?

I would rotate my planes, put some of the older ones back in the boxes and put the new ones on display. Maybe like once every 2 or 3 weeks I would do this. (until I buy more display cabnits )

Good question. I ran out of room some months ago, but it's amazing how I always seem to be able to squeeeeeze just one or two more planes into the mix!

I'm going to have to start rotating models in and out of the closet.

Another thing I'm doing is concentrating on narrowbodies, RJs, and Aeroclassics. It's amazing how many 732s you can display in the space a 747 or 777 would take!

Then I would stick with rotating them.

The last resort would be to buy a bigger house. That would really make one a insane collector.

I had three more glass shelves made for my cabinet and put alot of the DW models on their stands. With doing this and putting more narrow bodies under the widebodies on stands I was able to put 115 models in my cabinet plus one inflight Delta DC-10, one United DC-10(delivery colors) Bader and one United 727 premium herpa.

My next option is to buy a two door glass cabinet, but in the meantime I just change my models around her and there.

Hang those babies from the roof! Not the very best of ideas for die-cast airliners but if you use adequate thread/fishing line then you will have an AMAZING display!

That's what I did!

Build a second floor to your house.
Actually sometimes you can add plexiglass shelves to your existing cabinets, by simply putting those small metal studs into drilled holes on the sides and resting plexiglass shelves on them. The plexiglass/acrylic is good because you can see through it so everything remains in view.
Either that or charge higher parking fees, this will discourage other airlines from using your facilities.

Scott will you be getting the Inflight United (NC) DC-10 when it comes out? I have one on order already, those things are so nice.

I use the rotation method. To me, too many planes crammed on the shelves doesn't look good. You can rotate with different themes from time to time (sorted by plane type, sorted by airline, sorted by decade, sorted by airport you'd see these grouped together, etc.)

What do mean "if" I run out of space, i am already there, although negotiations are underway to add more shelf space to the book shelves as decscribed above. I wouldn't be able to stand the thought of one of my babies being in its box and not on display, so that rotation thing is out for me.

Just find excuses to scavenge space all over the house. Perhaps the only room off-limits ought to be a bathroom; too much humidity.

I'd get rid of my single-wide and go for the new high tech double-wide trailer.

If you move the washer off the front porch and put it where the pick-up is on blocks, you could probably put a shelf there in its place.

You know what you can aslo do to save some space........If you have more than one of the same model (like if you have 6 different United models) only dispaly one of those United models at a time.

There's always room at my place for a new old plane, all sizes and shapes welcome! I'll just rearrange them, put some where I have never had them before or, if worse comes to worse, just store them and take them out once in a while.

Buy a C-54 fuselage that is destined for the scrap heap, put it up on blocks in the front or back yard, and fill it up with planes! There is a museum up in Quebec that has done this with a Trans-Canada Connie.

I start them out all on the flat glass surface. Then the dragons go on stands in the back, then a tight pack where all the same planes are placed side to side. 747s need to stay in the same series. SP's and 400 don't spread out good.
Only variations to the rule - American Airlines has their own shelf.

I've already preordered it a few months ago from Don at Jetstreams USA. Its a most for my collection.

Where did you order your model from?
