Exclamation We need a Big Bird!!

Ok lest anyone here start thinking about other kinds of ahem.. birds, the guys over at 1:500 have been having it really good ever since Big Bird entered the 1:500 foray. Look at what they've been getting in the last couple of weeks.

ANA Pokemon 744D
Can't get that in 1:400 unless you've got the kind of money that I don't. I mean I wouldn't mind getting one of those again in 1:400.

ANA 744D
Again, you'd need quite a pretty dime for that model. Don't even think there's such a model in 1:400.

Ansett Olympic Models
Alot cheaper than the ANA models, but man, still worth quite a penny in 1:400.

and now...

JAL Disney Dream 744D
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE TOMY MODELS!!!!!!

Man, maybe I should start collecting 1:500 instead if they're going to start producing models like the BA Landor. The photos of the Big Bird models do look pretty good. We need a Big Bird in 1:400!!! A manufacturer who doesn't give a damn for licences!! Hee.. ok maybe not. But man! I want those models in 1:400!!

Carmy,

Start collecting 1:500 models or you lose out as 1:500 comes out with more interesting liveries than 1:400.....hehe

Yes, the licensing issue, perpetuated by the fight between GeminiJets and DragonWings, has changed the face of the hobby in the past few years, and not for the better!

I'm glad I also collect 1:500 scale, because it has managed to elude that issue over the years, and hence, the subjects have been spectacular!

Im sure we will see Dragon Wings make a ANA 747-400, remember those early ANA 777's that Dragon Wings made?

And there was a Ansett Olympic 747-400 made in 1/400 scale, remember this model? (made by DW, distributed by Twin Star)

The big Birds do look nice in pictures. The only Big Bird to be reviewed on Wings900 didn't quite get a silver medal, but considering that several Herpass did come close to a medal, it's a preaty good start for the Big birds. I would hope that their name doesn't indicate that they will only do wide-body aircraft.

Don't forget that price tag on the JDE 3 Only 48 dollars in HK. I won't be surprised if its over 70 plus in the US.

The AN 744 Olympics model current going price on ebay is around US$50. That's awfully expensive by anyone's standards I think. Although I got that AN model at a somewhat cheaper price, I sure wouldn't mind having a few of those ANA models. Man, sure they look good.

The 1/500 range from Herpa in particular is fantastic as far as liveries go. They do have some weird and wonderful liveries there and I infact used to be a biiiiiiiiig collector of the models. However, despite the lack of interesting liveries (or inability to get them due to the cost), I am now 100% Dragon/Gemini as these models are simply FAR more detailed and of a much higher quality than those from Herpa.

I am in no way putting down Herpa. I have been on the factory tour a few times in Dietenhofen and the guys there are great but for me, it's Dragon all the way.

Happy collecting.

I do not care if the planes are 1/500 scale or the price.I will get most of the releases cause SJ,DW,or GJ will probably NOT release these and Bigbird is only a 1/500 company. If you like what you see save some money and invest in one,if not, than that is your choice. Also I collect the 1/500 in certain foreign airlines to conserve space. These arw very rare and will be highly sought after in the future.
