Default Why does PHX use different engine pylons on some of its 777s?

Hi all,

I'm curious as to why Phoenix uses different engine pylons on some of its 777s? All 1:1 B772ERs have the same engine pylons in real life despite the three engine options being available, but if you compare the attached two photos you'll see that PHX has used quite different pylons on each...? IMHO the JAL is by far the more accurate pylon. I have a SQ 772ER (9V-SVO) from Phoenix that also has the 'funny'pylons. Its a bit odd and because the Vietnam pylon is completely the wrong shape, puts me off buying the model.

The pylons on the real aircraft are different depending on the engine type installed.
Gemini did it also - look at the United 777 and the Transaero and you'll see they're different.

Yes you're right, 772lr and 773er get the the same pylons, and they are different from 773 and 772. Anyway, there is something like this...

Thames you should do some research and look at more pics of 777s before saying that all 3 engines have the same pylons. Also you should compare the picture of the model to the 1:1 first before saying that phoenix have put a wrong engine pylon on their model

Vietnam (vietnam 777s have different engines on different planes)


Look closely at the following pictures

GE90(curves upwards)

SgtMoody, point taken about the Vietnam model (although I don't think the pylons on the model look very much like the 1:1 aircraft's, which incidentally I have since found out- as you pointed out-is the pylon for the P&W engine option, though not very well done IMHO).

Can you, however, explain why Phoenix chose to put the same pylons as the Vietnam onto the 9V-SVO model (which has RR engines). Or onto the ZK-OKC model (also with the RR engines)?

I wrongly assumed the VN 772 also has RR engines but still it doesn't explain why they used the wrong pylons on some RR engined models

If you look at Phoenix 777 releases, you will realise they never had RR engines nor pylons. They only have PW and a GE90-look-a-like. For all of their SQ 777(772ER, 773 supposed to have RR engines) releases they have used the GE90-look-a-like.

But for some retarded reason they manage to put a PW engine on 9V-SVO. Personally I'll take a GE90 over the PW4000 anytime, since i doubt they are going to bother with making an RR engine

I agree that the pylons are not well done, but well it's phoenix and we all know what that means hahahaha!

As for ZK-OKC they released the initial photo with the PW engine which I noticed and posted this making fun of them on their FB page . But the good news for ANZ collectors is that they managed to release it with the GE90 engine which you can see here

Most diecast companies only made 2/3 of the 777 engines, proper GE90 molds are the rarest. Fewer still made engine-specific pylons for the associated nacelles. (plus, different GE90's have different pylons and nacelles----76,000lb and 115,000lb versions of it only share a few parts and do not look the same)

The most obvious omission on the 773ER is the strut representing the semi-levered main gear. Not one manufacturer has changed their mlg bogies to represent them.

If I was in the business of model making, I'd make the moulds correct from the beginning. If you are spending the money initially on getting the mould done, I don't see why you can't get it done right from the beginning.

That's why having the semi-levered gear strut missing from the 300ERs stands out like dogs bollocks.

PHX don't have engineering team after GJ left, and they know nothing about real aircrafts.

I've seen similar things before in 1/400----different releases of the same thing, with only the registry number different, with changed parts. Because the factory, and manufacturer, despite it literally being their business---usually do not know airplanes well enough to identify which parts to use.
