Default Wrest Pan Am

We have a question.... (that is, me and Air Hostess Rhonda, pic below)...

what is that damn deal with Pan Am and Dragon.... do they in fact have an exclusivity deal as stated in their web site?.... if so, then I think we should start an international incident by sending over several Gemini reps disguised as tourists and rip the contract out of their hands.... I mean, since Dragon is apparently no longer producing new models of any kind, and, lets face it, if they did, how many plastic-winged Airbuses do we need?

answers! we need answers!

I agree it IS annoying that they have this liscense and aren't using it! I'd LOVE to have a Pan American 727-100, and since DW is the only 1:400 mfr. with a -100 mold (and a DAMN GOOD one at that!) it's a NO brainer to get at LEAST this model out... I can see them waiting to get 747SP and 707 molds made before making REAL strides with this airline, but COME ON!!! Use it or LOSE it!

Cool

I think it goes to show that DW takes little initiative, and shows little creativity (at least lately) unless they think Gemini is poised to eat their lunch.

The Pan Am license is one of a few examples:

What about that MD-80 mould? Where the F*CK are our TWA, PSA, Alaska, Alitalia, Continental, Midwest express, Reno Air, Aeromexico, Delta, Hawaiian (OC)!?!? If they released any of these, they would sell the ***** out of them, so where are they??

What about the A330 and A340 moulds? How many Swissairs, Lufthansas, Sabenas, and Emirates can they release??? OK give them credit for releasing the Virgin, but why did it take so long, and where are Aer Lingus, Lan Chile, Canada 3000, Skyservice, Air Tahiti Nui (reissue), Air Jamaica, Air Canada???

Oh hell, I guess Gemini could be accused of sitting on their assets as well until they see the competition breathing down their neck. The difference though is that IMO, Gemini has been releasing some really great stuff lately, and does not seem stuck in a rut like DW. Neverless one could ask:

Why have do we have only one concorde after all this time? Where are Air France, Landor, Singapore?

Where in the world are all the stretch DC-8s. Holy cow, what a great mould Gemini has with that one, but they've only released four so far!

What was the last non-Braniff 707 we've seen? Jesus its been so long I don't even remember!

It's also interesting that GJ has started to release some more 757s lately now that DW's mould has surfaced. If we start to see some -SPs from Gemini soon, I'd suspect the DW mould is right around the corner. This compeition is obviously a good thing!

Question

I agree and I disagree. I think that (and I am worried) that when (and if) Dragon releases a 757, and both release an SP, that we will get lots of 'doubles' again, and neither will produce anything outstanding. I can see Dragon first releasing all the European 757's then doing United, American, and other great North American liveries, while Gemini (with Schuco's affiliation) will release a whole mess of European airlines in the 757 mould. The same would go for the SP...which company would be the first to introduce something really amazing (face it as good as the DW Virgin 340 is, it's not something new). I give Gemini credit for making the Condor's, the Avianca's and the BA's while Dragon has somewhat made up for it's "Swissair/Sabena" invasion with the Varig 737, Bangkok 717 and the Air Canada Free Spirit 767. But none of these are 'wet the bed' type models. It has been quite a while since I have seen a release that has that effect on me. (a Stratocruiser would do the job)

And no more wasting time with fantasy liveries please!

end of speech

I bet you all are looking forward for the day I go back to work, and I won't have time to write these long boring replies! (should be back at work next week)

Quite right! What about the last L-1011 (both, GJ and DW)??? What about the last non-Braniff B707??? And, hell, what about the last B747SP??? They have such a cool classic DC-8... the releases are quite limited. Is this mould primarily reserved for SkyJets400 or something??? Not to mention the lack of new DC-8 Super Sixty models! Still waiting for Spantax, Iberia, Japan Airlines, SAS (Viking), and Eastern (White).

Walter, you hit the nail on the head on this one. What a waste of an exclusive license.

I remember guys questioning BA'[s decision to grant GJ the exclusive licensing rights to their planes, well the answer is, at least GJ comes out with BA models on a regular basis ,albeit not fast enough, but at least we have them coming out.

What has DW done with their Pan Am exclusive license? F*cking nothing!

I am not against exclusive licenses, in fact this is a good way to prevent multiple releases of a single livery/airframe. However, once you get it, don't waste it. In not using it, you're telling your clientele I don't care much about you!

OK so far, Edwin, but I also remember collectors' posts when DragonWings had released all the Pan Am birds (B737-400, A300, L-1011, B727-200) in a relatively short period of time: "NO MORE PAN AM's"! May be, Dragon just took them serious...

The Pan Am license issue is in litigation. We won't see anything til that is over.

Hmm, this adds a new dimension to the whole conversation now doesn't it? Care to elaborate my friend?

Daniel, you also have a very good point there but I have to add, that since that time though, there has been numerous calls for Pan Am and these have gone unheeded. If as Nick says, its due to the case, then I feel bad for them, but if its not, then I'm disappointed with them.

It's due to the lawsuit and is going to take quite some time to clear up.
