Exclamation The FIRST pics of the American Eagle ERJ-145s!

As I promised, here are some digital snaps of the ERJs that just came in today at the CRSmith Museum here in Dallas. Some of y'all will probably be getting your little birds in the next few days and here's what you have to look forward to! I apologize for the lighting conditions, I wanted to use natural lighting (it's much better for photographing these models) but it was evening already and there's a b*tch of a storm going on that made it dark early.

The first image above shows the nice petite-sized box the ERJ comes in. The blue is much lighter than is apparent in this photo, but the box graphics are quite nice (and I'm the sort of collector who could care less about the box...I'd buy these things if they came in plastic baggies)

The next image is a close up of the ERJ with some GSE arrayed around it. The windows DO have silver frames, don't worry. You can't see it too well in this image, but the front tires are a bit on the large size and I'm going to use some light gray paint to enlarge the hub to minimize to off-road look of the nosewheels. The mainwheels look fine, though, and they do have gear doors as well.

Here's a sweet overhead shot in my airport diorama to give you an idea of the size of the ERJ compared to some recent releases.

Last image for today is a close-up size comparison with the GJ American 727-200 (which I'm going to really miss seeing here at DFW!) Funny thing, the ERJ looks pretty small in hand, but sitting next to some of the narrowbody jets we all have, it's not too small after all.

And holy crap, my three jetBlues came in via FedEx today and I am sportin' serious diecast wood this evening! You can see one of them in the images above. Damn, I love days like today.

Enjoy and feel free to DROOOOOOL in anticipation!

Nice pics and nice diorama! Yes, the nose gear looks a tad large, but I'm sure I won't mind it when I get mine

Default Good looking airport

Chicken,
I don't ever recall seeing pictures of your layout before, but it looks real good. Please show us more. And there's some GSA equipment I've not seen before. Did you make them or....?

My two ERJs were shipped from CR Smith today, along with just about everyone else's I'm sure. They'll probably get here Thursday and I can't wait!

Judging from the picture of the ERJ next to the 727, this model is roughly the same size as an Aeroclassics BAC 1-11 or DC-9, right?

Thanks for posting the pics, SC.

I'll have to wait and hope they come to Vancouver on their own, I can't fathom paying almost as much for shipping as the model cost.
When the hell are you guys gonna invade Canada and put me out of my misery?

The pricepoint according to C.R. Smith Museum is $16.95 plus shipping (depending on how fast you want it), can range from about $5.00+

I ordered mine today, and I figured "what the hell?" I might as well jump on the bandwagon.... This model being the first in 1:400 scale to go regional, might be a pretty good investment or at least a "must have" or "rare" collector's item. It'll be my first American 1:400 aircraft, so I'm kinda excited about some change to my collection.

wow! 17usd is a reasonable price.... i was thinking that this might have the same price as a 737club model which is overkill for me...

i can afford this beauty after all.... hey! bring out the other regionals!!! hehehe

Hey Chicken,

Nice pics. It looks like the nose is a bit large though. I'm curious as to your thoughts on this. Of course, it's not going to stop me from ordering one (or two)!

Arrow I flew from DFW to Midland/Oddessa some months back on that!

I have a 1/100 scale one but am really looking forward to the 1/400th one even more! That way I can see it next to the MD-80 and 757 I went on, types anyway.

Hello, All!

First, To Sentinel Chicken: Happy [Belated] Birthday!

Secondly, thanks for the pictures.

Thirdly, the model looks nice; however, I think the model is not designed to [1:400] scale. It seems awfully big. The Boeing 727-200 dwarfs a regional jet in reality. The model looks the size of a [1:400] DC-9-10 or BAC-111. In reality, the DC-9 series, 717s, and the like dwarf the ERJ-145, -135, -140, and other regional jets.

Happy Collecting!

Regards,
DeltaTriStar

Actually, the scale looks about right. I remember at DTW, that the Mesaba Avro Regional Jets (not much larger than an ERJ-145) is just about the same size as the Northwest DC-9's that were also there. And if you look at a Canadair Global Express or a Gulfstream IV or V next to a ACJ or BBJ, they are not that much smaller. In all, I think Regional and Corporate Jets are not that much smaller than their narrowed bodied big brothers.

Other than that...
Can't wait till mine arrive, I wanna compare these first RJ's to something like a 747 or 777!

This is fantastic! (space fillers)

I hear this is a GJ model, but why are they branding this model Skyliners instead of their own brand name. This model industry is getting more and more complicated everyday.

Just got mine---they DO want a signature. (My main gripe with FedEx--if it's worth less than 25 bucks, it shouldn't need a signature).

PS---smells like a GJ plane.

Glad all y'all liked the pictures. Last night I took a fine brush and some light gray/silver paint and "touched up" the hubs on the nosewheels and it makes quite a difference in the appearance. Considering the size of the model, it's very well done though I have noted that the horizontal stabilizer comes off the fin rather easily (and repaired with some superglue gel).

As far as my airport diorama is concerned, it's perpetually under construction (kinda like the downtown Fort Worth I-30 interchange) but is geared more to narrowbody jets, but I can accomodate easily anything up to a 777. The GSE is all scratchbuilt and can easily be made by anyone with Evergreen styrene. One of these days I'll have to post the plans so all of you can have a stab at some homemade GSE.
