Thumbs up OT- So you want to fly your own Delta L-1011..

Wow! Check this out...

http://www.flypcm.com/l1011.htm

85" long... Seeing that flying around could really mess up one's depth/size perspective...

The basic kit is $1,425.00, but I'd hate like hell to crash it, even if I could afford it.

It would cost more because first you would have to buy a trainer, and then a cub, then a jet trainer, then the Tristar.

I saw that a little while ago, and I don't know if it's the Deltaflot scheme or what, but it's always looked to me like it was shorter than even a -500.

Thats 1425 bucks for the basic model!!! The motor is another $2-3K and if you want the retractable gear add another $600+...

Whew! Ya' just got to be sweating at the controls of that $5000 model... but I bet there is a thrill to match ...

That's a beaut! I've always been fascinated with the concept of a large-scale aircraft powered by a mini turbojet. Think of the sound and smell! These critters are horribly expensive to build and maintain. The odds of an unfortunate crash are staggering - too much risk for me to take.

A few months ago I saw a report on German TV where somebody had built these models all alone. His latest aircraft was a 2-m long US Air A330. They then showed its maiden flight. Absolutely impressive both the accuracy of the model and its flight characteristics!

Nobbe,

May be an aircraft model specialist named Norbert Rauch von Willich? Just an idea, he appeared several times on Germany's most important (flying) aircraft model magazines since the 1980's! He's also advertising the basic kits of his models. Quite impressive - btw, much better looking than the models shown on the website link above - and much cheaper!

Sorry, I don´t know his name, don´t even know where it was shown - either Stern TV or Spiegel TV on VOX - but it was about model makers of all kinds: airplanes, boats and railroad. Very impressive.

It's an expensive hobbie. Some guy went out and made a Delat Tristar ana an ANA Tristar. The first time I went flying a guy had crashed a beautiful Cub. If your flying a plane then you should be buliding one on the bench, and I still remember that saying. Even little things can turn into big things. A guy had his Sig Cadet and his plane jerked forward on the runway and almost did a flip. In the end his prop was broken and he couldn't fly again.
