I think we'll get it when all the other paint schemes are released.

The An225 is, IMHO, one of Herpa's best moulds. Very accurate, and covers an aircraft type that is very under-modelled by other producers. Thanks for the pics!

This is such a nice model, you might want the Soviet shuttle version AND the modern one. That's what I'm going for, having sold off the red stripe version for the modern blue/yellow striper. Now to wait....

I'm not into 1/500, a decision I took when I began diecast collecting.

One solution could be to have the An-225 AND the Buran separately, if ever released.

But then you would be missing the transport-joints and the transport-config of the shuttle, wouldn't you!? I guess only a set makes sense here and i am sure we'll see it..

You're right, that makes for a tough decision indeed ! The best for me would be Antonov ending the work on the second An-225, that way I could get both !!

Herpa really did a nice job with that model. A "must have" for many collectors! We're hoping for the Buran, too. We will see!

The Swiss retailer Air Mail (or something like that) released a 1:400 scale AN-225 w/Buran made out of wood. very few made and very pricy ... looked like this:

Was the Soviet 'Buran' a serious attempt at a Space Shuttle competitor or just a mock up replica attempt at keeping up with the USA ?

It was the Soviet's attempt to "keep up with the Joneses". The Buran shuttle actually flew unmanned in space, but the cost of the program killed it. The Soviet Union was dying, and the country was broke. The Buran was a viable shuttle and would have complimented the US shuttle program quite a bit if they had continued.
