Default My Military Model Airport

I don't know how to move the other thread to the 1:400 board where it should be, so I'm starting a new one.

Got some new models, so thought I'd snap off a few pics for you guys.

Enjoy!

Sagar

1. A pair of P-3's touching down after a formation landing

2. The 737 fleet.

3. The alert ramp.

4. A NATO AWACS taxing past the VIP terminal.

5. Overview of my airport.

Thats ace, I am working on something similar. The P-3s are great, I have a few of them. Get the ARII 1/400 scale plastic aircraft packs, they are cool if you want to paint them!! Well done.

Did you make that hangar? Looks good, I think we are going to be seeing a few more of these air bases soon. I have something up my sleeve as well. Also is that the spirit of 76 AF1? I've been looking for that plane for awhile to no avail.

You should post some of the pics. We all have collections, so let's share them. Heck, look at my terminals, it's about as plain as it can be.

Yeah, I made my own hangars. Got bored one night and just did them. Might make sure more, but the store where I get my Plastruct closed.

Mine is very basic too. I need a couple more buildings made, and I need to paint the wood in a kind of tarmac colour. I had the chance to acquire the C-9A Nightingale set but I dont like the Nutzmodel mould, so I didnt. Wish I had now, though I hope that Papa K might do the C-9A one day.
If you are interested, Sagar, I may have some 1/350 E-2/EA-6B Prowler available. you will need to paint though.

You should check out the two Navy C-9A's by SMA but be prepared to spend some cash. Once my camera stops acting up I'll post a few pics.

well thats the first AFI referance Ive seen on this site. Nice collection, I havent seen that many tankers since I was down at Brooks. So where did all the fighters come from, I haven't seen those around in 1/400?

Yeah, it's just wallpaper. I can't remember where I got it from, but I think it was a arts and crafts store. It's a lot better then just a white wall.

The AFI sign I grabbed out of the garbage. The F-16's came with tankers. Dragon offers fighters with a bunch of their planes. F-16's, F-15's, F-117's and a B-2. None of them have landing gear unless you buy the B-2 by itself. The Navy jets are either from Tamiya or Trumpeter. All of those planes are 1:350 scale. If you look at the thread about the USS Enterprise you'll see some of the pics I posted comparing them to 1:400 scale fighters. There isn't a big difference. Arii makes a USAF and USN set in 1:400 but you're going to have a hard time finding it. I found two on e-bay. I have one tanker for every tanker in my unit. I'm going to do a replica of the base I work on. Thanks for the compliments.

Garth

Nice work! Looking very good. Have you considered lighting the interiors of your hangars with led's?

Sagar, Just a thought, but with all the aviation photography you do, what about enlarging some of your pictures to make a back drop? Would that be a difficult task? If you could pull it off that would look pretty sweet. That's not to say your cloud back drop looks bad. It deffinetly looks better than a plain wall.

Hi CPB2, I have 159118, the other one i saw in 1/1 scale on delivery from Iberia to the USN at PIK. Its a bit modern for me. 118 is an old machine and has been in PIK many times. I think it was still flying for USN recently.

Got to give credit where credit is due. Mikey007 was the one who found those ARII sets for us but I haven't seen him on here in a while. I wonder what his base looks like.

I am guessing that your 'Blue Angels' F/A-18 Hornets are actually Tamiya or Trumpeter 1/350 scale models, unless someone makes these in 1/400th?

Yep, they're 1:350 Tamiya. I'm going to do another set except I'm going to use Trumpeter this time because they have clear canopys and I will be able to make an F-18D for the #7 plane. I've been working on some fighters but man it sucks painting those little suckers. Hopefully I'll have some pics by next weekend.

Hey all, thanks Champpitbull2 for giving me the credit. Unfortunately I don't have a base put together. I have a pretty good size collection. Yours is very impressive I must say. I am always on the road with my new job since I retired from the AF. I will have to take some pics of my collection at least for now. What is happening to Dragon I see they pushed their latest C-130 with skiis back until March. Very disappointing for us Military fans. I also saw Herpa has a Herc out from the RI National Guard. Might have to grab it. On a side note Revell is coming out with a Plastic model kit of the C-17 in 1/144. That will be an awesome kit..

Exclamation Re: My Military Model Airport

Evening:

Being someone new here! I would like to ask if anyone is using Micro Machines to use as fighter aircraft Vs the 1/400.

When the 1/350 SU-33s came out, we found that it was a good match to our MM planes.

True scale maybe off, but on a lay out next to C5As or C-17s should be right at home. Plus they have wheels.

I live in WI about 45 miles N by NE of Green Bay, home of the NFL Packers.

I have 1 C5A, some 14 C-17s and about 20 C-130.

Just today for $100.00 with shipping I picked up 4 DWs, a KC-135E, a KC-10 /B2, a E3A and a Tenn C-130.

I would lovee to talk to anyone about a airfield some where with a surface area of 2' X 6' to park the planes.

Down the road I want to get 3 more C-130s, the IDF, RAF and the NAF

I have the SU-33's too. They're pretty big planes for fighters. You should take some pictures of your collection. If you want to do an airfield and you are looking for ideas go to google earth and look some up. Google Earth has a measuring tool so you can measure everything up and then divide that number by 400 and then multiply it by 12 and voila, you have the dimensions you need. The airfield I'm building is about the size you mentioned. I have two other panels that size that I'm contemplating what to do with them. I might make one big 1/400 scale airbase or I might make a 1/500 and a 1/200 as well. I only have a few 1/500 planes and not a single 1/200 but I keep seeing all of those cool 1/200 fighters at the hobby store and I'm tempted to buy a few. the Only problem is they are so much more expensive then 1/400.

Champ:

Thanks for the quick reply:

The trouble I find right now is that all the layouts that one can buy are mainly for Civilian Aircraft.

I don't need anything more then a parking area, with a hanger or 2.

I think I mite of found the airfield needed and that one is down in FL. The old Homestead base. Not currently in use's

I want or need one for the military end. With not allot of room, I find myself to biulded a folding shelve above my extrain layout, that now is filled with Micro Machines and everything else.

Just a short runway with a large concrete parking area, 2 X ? long
