Hi people!
After browsing these forums, I admittedly know nothing about aircraft models... but I'm eager to learn a bit more. I'm looking to get a gift for someone who loves the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft - I'm pretty sure that's the model number. It is a slender slender plane that's narrow and long - is this the right model? Are there any other 777 models that look similar to it? I think the 777-200 is a bit wider in the body - please correct me if I'm wrong... Ok, well the gift I want to get is for a desk display - I want something that is extremely high quality and doesn't look or feel cheap... I thought the die-cast metal would be ideal for this, but I don't think Gemini makes it in the size I want... I'm looking for something at least 12' long - and putting it on a nice chrome/metal heavy stand with landing gear intact. The colour I am looking for is ideally silver/chrome/metal... I think United has those colours, but I could be mistaken. Otherwise, Emirates' or Air Canada is fine (preferably Air Canada) if it exists... Any suggestions? What dimensions are the 1:400 scale models? Am I looking at 1:250? 1:200? What are the differences I should be looking for if I have to go with plastic? Are there certain brands which are better? If anyone can suggest an actual manufacturer of the model and the model number, I would appreciate it... Thanks a lot for helping out a newbie! |

I don't think you can get a diecast aircraft that is metal and will have a stand but i am open to corrections. Try Herpa, www.herpa.de, you can get all three scales and good quality models!! But don't just listen to me. Find out what other people have to say first!!

What is the fundamental differences between Herpa, Hogan, and PacMin models?
I think I've found a PacMin 1:250 scale but it's pretty pricey... is it worth it to pay twice as much for a PacMin model over a Hogan wings one? Is the Hogan one really cheaply made? Could it be used as a desktop display? And I realize that I'm looking for the B777-300ER plane... the 777-200 is "chubby" |

Herpa and Hogan are made by the same factory, except that Herpa usually assembles the model and it usually has better-quality details. Hogan models are just as good quality-wise and cheaper, though you will need to assemble them. No glue is required - it's all snap fit.

Thanks a lot! I've finally narrowed down the model I want to either the SkyMarks Boeing 777-300ER House Colour model (1:200) $40 or so plus shipping or this custom model created by PacMin that is also 1:200, but has the American logo and is silver and is $65 or so... through a special deal I've made
It's actually a gift for someone who loves the Boeing 777-300ER, now I just have to figure out whether or not they'll appreciate the silver colour, higher-quality model, or the one that actually says the model of the plane on it... Hrm... What would you guys recommend? |

Also Hogan makes a 1:200 scale model of the 777-300ER in Air France colors.
http://www.airplaneshop.com/productd...e=HOGAN&id=125 This model is very nice, it comes with great looking landing gear and fan blades that spin when blown on. (I do not work for The Airplane Shop.) Nick Last edited by Nick L.; 05-15-2005 at 12:20 AM. |
