Hi again forgot to mention that I may have interesting
leads in finding general aviation airplanes. First- I found an interesting source in HOT Wings Second- I found another source In Matchbox Planes waiting for catalogs Now If I could just find the right type of airliners in the right scale I would have this problem solved. It used to be difficult to find scale model Fire Apparatus, but not anymore. The next area that I would need help finding items in the right scale would be Airport Accessories vehicles Mobile Stairway Unit vehicle Mobile Baggage Conveyor truck Catering truck Airport Aviation Fuel Trucks Baggage tractors and baggage carts This part of my Model railroad project looks like it might turn into a long term project to find all the right details without having to build them myself, I'm not into scratch building or Kits. This part of the project is obviously going to be a lot more difficult than I originally counted on! Wish me luck-----we'l see what works out Myron T. Johnston II

Aero Minis will probably be a bit too small for an HO layout, as they range in size from 1:239 to 1:250 scale. Furthermore, this line of aircraft is no longer in production...it is a nostalgic/antique line and some pieces are so rare that this hobby can become rather costly.
It will not work for your layout. Although I am not certain of the scale of an HO layout, you are probably better suited to getting a plane at the scale of 1:200 or larger. If 1:200 will meet your needs, I am doing my best guess here. The Inflight & Inflight 200 models are an excellent choice. Excellent detail, starting price @ about $99 per plane and Braniff is available. K Last edited by ktaylor; 11-24-2003 at 12:06 PM. |

In reply to your scale question: H.O. Scale is 1/87th Scale
1/200th would be too small as would 1/400th and 1/500th the ideal scale suited to match H.O. Scale would be 1/72nd which is as close as I can come. I found out that HotWings are Too small 1/500th scale and Matchbox airplanes are Too large 1/48th scale. I agree with you that they are probably going to be quite costly. Why doesn't some one build something in the right scale for hobbiers like us modeling in 1/87th????? Thanks for the post

For these two:
-Catering truck -Airport Aviation Fuel Trucks you might find some models to modify from Herpa 1/87 serie. ![]() |

Herpa Trucks just might work for my application.
They have a line of refrifgerator trucks. I would have to think about modification. The bodies do come apart easily enought Duplicating the hydraulic Jack-Knife Lift unit. That would take some ingenuity. I'll have to think about that. I did find one military aircraft refueler tank trailer semi-truck that could be repainted as a civilian refueler truck. Would have to have some one custom paint one for me. I have asked and found out that they do not accept special order one-of-a-kind models. Really too bad they discontinued the nostalgic model aircraft line. I have also found snow plow vehicles that would work. Question after finding the right kind of model and maybe having to do some modification...for display one the board would it be best to just put them in place or would it be better to glue them down permanently? Thanks again for the post will keep you informed
