Finally...I've been waiting months (since I first heard about it) for more information on this range from an already well-established 1:400 maker known for excellent graphics and a huge selection. Bring them on!

These new models are supposed to be in 1:250 scale, too. I'd better start building a shelf or two for all of these..

Talking WE"RE PRACTICALLY NEIGHBORS

CROWNVIC...I never received them...but my hotmail account is a bit screwy at times. Can you resend? If that fails, is there another way...I have email at work but don't ant to post that here.

Once upon a time I lived in the Metrowest area of Orlando...I still miss it. Used to work across from Fashion Square Mall in that Executive Office Park...simpler times for this Florida boy.

PLease try to get back in touch

Considering the maker, I would suspect that it might be mostly second or third generation jetliners. Still, they might surprise us, too.

Question

I am not following this at all? Aero Minis came in a variety of scales didn't they. Weren't the DC 9's, 727's, and 707's all 1/239, the 747 1/250? I think the DC8 was somewhere in between but I can't remember...and the VC10...what scale was that...1/239.

Anyway, whatever scale these new planes will be, it will be interesting because they will be larger and have the retractable gear. I wonder if the gear will actually turn and have covers like the Aero Minis did.

If they manage to accomplish all of this with the tampo printing and size, then they truly have pulled it off and this will put them light years ahead of any diecast competition from a collectors standpoint that hasn't been seen in years.

Mike:

Frankly, After some thought, I hope that they are 2nd or 3rd generation jetliners. There Aero Mini legacy needs to stand alone...as its own place in history of vintage aircraft.

My own preference is to start seeing some new types of aircrafts and liveries that have emerged during the last 20-30 years. Although I acknowledge it would be interesting to see some vintage aircraft with vintage liveries produced with new technology, this would definitely leave collectors in the dilemma with what to do with older collections.

My guess, however, is that there might be a spatterring of both, although I personally would prefer the later generation of aircraft and airlines. As a collector, I am trying to show history...but that is just my theme.

Hey there ktaylor,

As near as I can tell, the AM 707, VC10 and DC-8 were all made to a close, similar scale. The 747 is more like 1:290 scale, while the DC-9, 727 and 737 were made to a similar, slightly larger scale than the first three I mentioned.

Personally, I am hoping for an L-1011 and a DC-10 in this new range.
AM seems to have covered most of the classic types of airliners very well, which is my interest area. But, I wouldn't mind having a few second and third generation models to complement my collection.

I think Aero Minis still stand alone, too. The only thing that really dates them is their finishing. I think it would be possible to take any Aero Mini airliner and paint it using the most up-to-date painting and printing methods, and not have to alter it physically in any way, and still come up with an excellent model for play and collecting. In fact, I wish someone would! (The Peckhams don't really count, as they are not being mass produced.)

I suppose we might see one or two models duplicated in this new range, which would be fine. There are some that aren't likely to be duplicated (like the VC10 or the DC9-10), and that would be fine, too. I don't know what the plan is for this new range, but I'm still excited myself to see it.

Now then, crownvic, any idea of general pricing? How many different types will be available first? Can we expect Boeing or Airbus products first?

I'm two weeks out from a formal announcement.. The first release
will be an existing model already offered by AeroMini, but a whole lot nicer, and much more accurate!

I'm with you Mike that an L1011 or DC 10 would be nice...as Mecthcick was never able to produce either of them. And an L1011 in Eastern would be a dream!!! Why hasn't anyone produced a United Friendship in the DC10 in 1/400 (HINT!)?

I hope it is not going to be another 727 but if it is, I will buy it simply because it is the first one. I hope it is a DC8 or DC 9 though, since Brian Peckham has not produced the first one at all and I think he only released a Northwest version of the second.

My guess in terms of cost, is that it will be in excess of $50-60, considering the size and the intricasy of the gears and doors. Realize that a Peckham model from Arizona directly is about $85, so if these will have better detail, a similar price at today's market in my opinion seems reasonable.

By the way, do you have any spare decals for a 727? I need to fix a 727 that lost about 5-6 front port side and starboard.

I am heading home to FLorida for about a week tomorrow, so see you when I return.

Lightbulb PREDICTION

I predict the first release of this new line will be a 747!

Maybe if we're lucky it will be a 400 series!

My thoughts are any of the previous aero Minis: 707, 727, 737, DC8, DC9 and VC10 are too blah and small to be the flagship for the introduction of a new line of aircraft.

SInce crownvic has indicated that the first release will be a previously released Aero Mini, what would be better than the most beautiful than the famous 747?

Now, where will the annouce be made and who can I buy it from. Can I have the honor of getting one of the first if my prediction is correct?

A VC-10 'Blah'? BAH!:-) A nice 1:250 VC-10 would be a nice dream, even though it's hard to top AM's version. It's rather unlikely though, as the VC-10 was only operated by a few airlines. But, as a BAC/Vickers representative once said to a passenger after he discovered he was booked on the wrong aircraft (a VC-10), 'Correction- RIGHT aircraft, wrong flight'.

A 747 would be a nice choice, though very large in 1:250 scale. Schabak made a 1:250 747-400 a few years ago (with fixed gear) and that was a real hunk of metal. A 747 could amortise tooling well, with a large number of airlines and possibilities. We'll know in a couple of weeks.

Well, THIS IS exciting! I've given up on my AeroMini collecting... I've got a few, but once I got entrenched into 1:400, I ignored every other scale! Knowing Crownvic's lineage, I'd say these COULD be as good (or better) than the GJ products... with retractable gear?!?!?! OUTSTANDING!!!! I'll likely be pushing MOST of my 1:400's aside and moving over to this NEW scale/company! (There ARE a few SMA's, GJ's and JX's I'll never do without though... ) ... and my wife's gonna KILL me!

I can't wait to hear the BIG announcement!

The wifes definitely become a problem. My spouse and I have worked out an arrangement whereby I have to pay her the exact amount for every amount I spend on a plane...so you see...it is like paying double! OUCH. Its the only way to keep the peace but it is also only fair though. The thing though it truly slows the collecting progress down.

I have decided long ago to abandon the 1/400, and am just trying to get a remaining few to complete a couple of airline sets.

My big dilemma is as an avid Aero Mini collector what to do with this aspect. I have quite a few rare pieces. I don't know if I should start abandoning this to, keep at it, because this hobby is such a slow venture.

I am still waiting for the annoucement to see this new line, it is a good opportunity to get every new aircraft, but just don't see that happening for me. Seeing the new line will ultimately affect my longterm decisions and with no more Peckham models, theese new planes definitely look to be something very special.

No your not in the twightlight zone. I caught all kinds of flack for
starting this thread as I was to premature. The production samples are done and floating around, and it was even at the
Nurmberg toy fair, the delay right now is that the factory is not happy with the gear retraction for the nose. It appears too difficult for the average collector to be able to operate its opening and closing functions. Some minor retooling is going on right now.

These models were suppose to be out by now, so hang in there
as soon as I know more I;ll post it! I assure you it is no joke as
I am looking at three of them right now!!!!!!!!!

Funny you should ask as I spoke with the factory in china today and there should be an announcement hopefully this week.

the big hold up was the front gear and the boxing for the models.
As this appears to have been solved, things should be moving ahead alot quicker. Remember got to give priority right now to
Geminis and Starjets first!

Crownvic

Best of luck to you. Somehow I feel I'll be collecting these as well as the Star Jet 1:200 scale and the Bader 1:144 scale.

Hope to see an Ozark or three in your lineup one of these days.
