Question Original DC-8s ???

Does anyone know what original airline liveries were produced by Aero Mini for their DC-8 line? I know there is Eastern and JAL. What were the others? United maybe?

Cool I know, I know ...

Here there Crownvic,

I'm somewhat new to the ebay scene and the recent purchases have been out of excitement more than anything else I guess. I'm an avid collector of Aero Minis and a commercial aviation geek. I used to get these models as B Day and X-Mas presents when I was a kid and have always treasured them. To make a long story short, I gave up looking for them at hobby shops etc. since they were almost as expensive and in much worse shape. When I discovered them on Ebay, some in their original boxes (along with the "new" line of aero minis), it was like the back of my head got blown clean off! I couldn't believe what I had discovered and think I have totally lost my mind.

Anyway, I know they are expensive on Ebay, especially the rare ones like the Piedmont 737 which I didn't have. I didn't go for the recent JAL DC-8 since even I thought that one got out of control.

However, I did purchase the Air Canada DC-8 yesterday since I don't have one and believe it to be quite rare. I figured that if I purchased it under the buy it now option, that it wouldn't go close to the $2,000 mark by the end of its 9 days of bidding, like what happened to the JAL one.

I've slowed down my Ebay usage considerably though and am only interested in a rare find every now and then. As you know, I have also branched off into the Inflight models (still waiting on two of them that I ordered off of their UK site about 2 months ago, a Delta 727-200 and TWA DC-9-30). I've received the Delta DC-9-15 and its gorgeous. Also have gotten three DC-8 Starjets (National/Eastern/Braniff). A new scale for me and much smaller but really good detail in my opinion. I only wish we could find a line that has that amount of detail with retractable landing gears.

I'd be glad to chat with you about what better value I can get for the aero minis. Thanks man! Whats your e-mail address? --

Does anyone out there know if it would be legal to reverse engineer the aero mini moulds? The company isn't around anymore, what could happen?

curious2day just hit the email box on my thread above to get
a hold of me or e mail me at woodroof9@yahoo.com

As for the value of the Air Canada DC-8, any DC-8 is rare
however this model isnt anywhere near the rarity of the JAL
DC-8.. Most typically an Air Canada DC-8 in mint condition
sells for about $250-300.00.. the Piedmonts usually go for
about $100-150.00 the one you found in the blister packaging
is harder to find and should add about $100.00

Im glad you like the inflight models as I have about 15 of them.
And the starjets are excellent models as well! afterall they're
the little brother to Gemini Jets!

Wink DC8-61 JAL

To the best of my knowledge the DC8-61 has never been made AM, The subcontractor of AM in Japan made few DC8 's with the JAL livery on his own as few other like 747-200 of JAL on its JAL stand. ( I have put not not long ago a such picture). Most of the originals I have were purchase in Japan US or UK in the 70's.
In US at JFK for instance you could get any 747 for an average price of 15$.

Default Reverse Engineering

The Aero Mini moulds still exist, but are owned by the 'new' Aero Mini folks in (is it Arizona or New Mexico?). Judging by earlier posts on this board, it's not easy to get models from them, and they are only making models of the Boeing jets- I don't believe they are producing either of the Douglas jets or the VC-10. I had considered reverse engineering the DC-8-61 and the VC-10 myself and adding them to my IHP product line, but the cost of this would be prohibitive, especially since I'm not sure what the market would be. There is a dedicated Aero Mini following out there, but it's hard to tell how big.

If new Aero Minis are to be produced, I say let it start with all-new new tooling of all-new types instead of reverse-engineering old models that everyone now has or can get. I've been thinking about doing a couple of Aero Mini-style models myself sometime in the future, but of types not produced originally by Robert Metchick. The L-1011 is first in my mind, with one or other T-Tail aircraft behind that one. A lot of money to invest for how much return? That is the question.

Wink Original DC8's

AM preoduced only two models of the DC8-61 : Air Canada & Eastern! Then the Japanese founder made the JAL model without any consent of AM & that plane was made in few exemplar and therefore is difficult to find.
