747-200 to 747-400 part 4

The upper fuselage have received three lays of glossy white paint
which has been spray.
From inside the cockpit I have replaced the plastic part which is supposed to be the windows by a product which is called "Kristal Klear" by microscale.When dry I paint froim inside the Krsital Klear in black to obtain a good contrast with the white surrounding.
In the mean time I have worked on the lower fuselage which has been paint also in white.I am now going to apply on the wing the silver paint and the grey anticorrosion which is split in the wing outside the flaps and slats and not forgeting the black wheels.
That will be part 5.

How do you disasamble an Aeromini Plane?

The AM model plane comes in two main parts.
Upper fuselage with the tail and the lower fuselagfe with the ailerons, wings, landing ,gear & its doors.
To separate the upper from the lower fuselage you have to bevery carreful if you do want to dammage the decals and to do so you need a cutter to smoothly cut the decals along the
fuselage (where the two parts of the fuselage meets).
Then I use a sharp knife with a narrow blade which I enter between the two fuselage just behind the wings. I try to go inside the body till I reached the opposite side.
From then steps by steps with slow pressure I go to rear till I feel one of the two axis which maintain the body together.
I take out the knife & use a bigger one ( oyster knife are very good for the job) and apply a pressure up & down to separate the two fuselage & as soon as it start to split I repeat the operation in front just before the wings and move forward till I reach the front axis and from that point it is very easy to tear up the two fuselages till they come apart.
The whole operation take a maximum of five minutes.
Since the die-cast alloy is somewhat soft you need to be very gentle with the knife in order to do not make any dammage on the edges of both fuselage.

You did a fine job !
May I suggest that before applying any coating to make sure to tape close with a small adhesive the holes in the lower fuselage which received the two pinions. This is to avoid any coat in the holes which will make difficult to reassemble the two fuselages.
I also before reassembling .put a drop of oil inside each holes.
Also in front put an adhesive on each top and bottom end by doing so you will have no difficulty reassembling.
For the cokpit glass I replace the plastic by Microscale "chrystal clear and when dry paint from inside in black. See the 747-400

Of course you can put back the original plastic windows but I believe it is less realistic !

JB- Great pointers, thanks! I've admired your many aero mini's via this board and have a question regarding such restorations. I've posted a question regarding the decals on the 747's; do you paint all windows/striping once you've repainted, or do you have new decals made? I have a couple of originals I want very much to restore but am loathe to remove what labels still exist without a replacement plan.

I have made new decals for doors & windows and I also produce the decals of the airline I want to put on the a/c considering of course the type !
