risesoon / skymarks american airlines 777-200 chrome
oh what the plastic world would have been like if this process became mainstream!
no this model isnt a custom, it came out of the factory this way. supposedly the process is a hard one to do. if the chroming is messed up within the process, they have to chuck the entire model. im sure if they continued, they would have figured it out and refined the process though. im hoping in the future a plastic manufacturer would do this and get rid of the silly silver paint. what a fascinating proof of concept.
enjoy the pics. anyone know how many were made?
before i could only enjoy and marvel at this model with this pic thats been floating around on the net
now the model is in front of me...sweet!
pardon the dust =D

Did you finally find one or did you make this yourself?

So the CR Smith Museum sold them like this? Maybe that's where the whole lot went?

Re: risesoon / skymarks american airlines 777-200 chrome
the museum probably never sold this as from people that have told me, these were all samples that never made it into production since the process was so hard.
however someone else on this forum named KHH said back in '03 said he has one too and seems to suggest that it was a production model. this thread: http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...77-chrome.html
i want to be proven wrong. i want this to have been a production model so i can have hope of getting another to add gears without fear of damaging my only one haha!

Re: risesoon / skymarks american airlines 777-200 chrome
That IS quite the 'proof-of-concept' piece alright. I'm a sucker for polished finishes, but if this could be done on a reliable manufacturing basis, it would be nice to see the odd one like this in my collection. The Herpa Premium AA A300 is really the business too, IMPO. Wait -- that is chrome on plastic . . . .

It's a shame Alclad 2 can't be used by manufacturers but I suppose it just isn't feasible.

Re: risesoon / skymarks american airlines 777-200 chrome
yea alclad2 actually takes polishing to get this effect. if you just spray it on it has a AA polished metal effect instead of true chrome.
