Default 1/200 Cathay Pacific L-1011...finally!

well, as much as i hated the fact that the model was overpriced, i managed to get one from ARD at a very fair price. without going into too much detail, i managed to get it with a discount too (being an ARD member).

Overall, the model is OK, slightly tail heavy. I highly suspect that this model came from a second (or third, or fourth....) batch as the tail, I believe, is more accurate than the initial photos we saw here on DAC. Please correct me if I am wrong, but somehow my gut feel tells me that there were more than just 60 produced!

Anyhow, i'm a happy man now!

Next to B-HUI...

close up shot

tail seems more accurate....than the first photo we see in the forum

I also have this, and am wondering if in your last picture the cargo door on the right is a mistake? Wouldn't make sense for Lockheed to build a cargo door right on the joint.

It is correct. The forward (larger) door is for the rear cargo hold, the rear one is for the bulk cargo compartment. By the way, it wasn't the wing-to-fuselage joint itself, just the fairing.

Take a look at the 727. The cargo door is a similar location in the Wing-to-body fairing.

Just got mine yesterday... In a word - beautiful. It brings back memories of flying one of these CX L-1011s from Bangkok to Hong Kong in 1990. I sure wish I had taken some photos of the aircraft, but it was dark already.

I spent more than I usually would for a diecast (and may regret it if IF200 ever comes out with a "real" version), but I'm happy to be displaying it on my shelf. Did anyone ever figure out who actually made this, or will it remain a secret due to licensing issues?

Will they create a 747-200 and -300 version? It'll be nice if they did

I think we all noticed that the inofficial CX L-1011 was overloaded with detail errors but, finally, the overall result was positive. Apart from that, several of us had the chance to obtain the CX L-1011 at a very reasonable price.

It sure would be nice to know the truth about these models - who made them, how many were produced, etc... I assume because there were potential issues with Cathay Pacific licensing that details were purposely omitted. Why any airline would resist licensing is beyond me. It's great advertising...

Hi Raymond, you do sell this correct 1/200 Inflight VR-HHK with accurate tail? Can you check? William Singapore.

I am still wondering about what might have been wrong on 'earlier VR-HHK releases'? Could you (or anyone else) please specfiy? Thanks much in advance.

Nobody able to specify the alleged "wrong tail" on "earlier VR-HHK" models? I am really curious 'cause (although I am sure there are far more than 60 pieces existing) this model was probably made in a single production run. 60 or 300... it doesn't make any difference in this respect.

Well, I actually had two posts detailing the errors on the CX L-1011s:

Erorrs #1
Errors #2

Nothing had changed. These errors are on any single CX L-1011 around. Neither 'improved VHF antenna' nor 'corrected tail colours'.

Well, after close inspection, you are right, there's still something wrong concerning the tail. The center green stripe is too narrow. You can easily see that when you compare the bottom border of the center green stripe to the top line of engine #2's air-intake. The green should be well below the air-intake's top line, but on the model both are on same level.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. Sorry.
