I used to go to Hollywood Burbank Airport and watch the PSA Electras operate out of there for hours on end. I have both the Hobby Master and the Aviation 200 Electras, and they are excellent models, and each have their own good points.
The Electra had a double taper curve to the upper rear of the rudder/vertical stabilizer. The tail contour on the Hobby Master is more rounded and does not look right to me. I think the Aviation 200 contour is closer to the real thing. The cockpit windows on the Aviation 200 look closer to the 1:1, but should be a little bigger. Those 2 big front panes of plexiglas were completely flat, as they are on most aircraft, not slightly rounded as on the Hobby Master job. Finally, the propellers and prop hubs look better on the Hobby Master model, although the hubs are a bit too small (they are too big on the Aviation200 model for my taste). They do a better job of catching the mass of those huge 13' props. Both are excellent models. I think, depending on taste, you will be happy with either one. |

Please find pictures of Western Models and Hobby Master Electras to compare. WM fuselage is narrower (and looks more appropriate as for me), HM is slightly too bulky. WM has more details painted (static ports, details of cargo doors), engines looks like made of one part of metal (in HM front part of cowling is attached). As you see blue and red strips painted on HM fuselage are not so smooth - look at it just after second window above wing.. Anyway HM looks great, livery is really nice - that is why I bought it (and the price was below 40EUR in the shop).

I didn´t know they had released the VARIG. Good ! So up to now we have 3 different manufactures that released a VARIG Electra in 1/200 scale. True?
Who is selling these models?

I think the Varig Electra was by Aviation200, and Sky's the Limit Aviation has some available. (800) 763-6485 or Diecast Scale Models Including Gemini Jets, Dragon Wings, Herpa Wings, Phoenix Models, Aero Classics, Hogan Wings.

There are 3 VARIG L-188 in 1/200 scale, the WM, AV200 and the one made by HM. The first two I already have but the latter one seems to be hard to find. Thanks. Will look there anyway.
