Default I fancy adding a 1:200 to my collection

I've recently got back into collecting 1:400 models after a break of a few years. When I started collecting aircraft, 1:200 seemed to consist of snap together plastic or wooden models. After finding this forum and looking at a few 1:200 models I have decided to add one to my collection just to break it up a tad.

Whats the general opinion on the different brands and what type of model do each brand produce? I'd preferably like to add a die cast model but I'm not too sure who or what to go for. I'd love an Inflight200 BA 744 but my budget wont stretch that far.

So far I have seen two models that have caught my eye. These being:-

Gemini200 Airbus A321 Monach Airlines

Inflight200 Boeing 703 British Airways

What are the pro's and con's of each model and which is the better one to go for?

Also, is there any news of a die cast 1:200 777 being released soon?

Thanks
Matt

The Hogan/Herpa 777s are a good start!

If you strictly into diecast then why not the upcoming Aeroflot A321 by GJ200?

Yeh that does look a beaut! What are gemini like for their 1:200's with regards to quality? How do they compare with Inflight or other brands?

Nothing compares to the quality of Inflight200. However this doesn't mean you can't collect Gemini.

From Gemini, I have in the 1:200 scale the Air Canada A321 and the American Airlines B737-800. And I love them both.

I also though that diecast was the only way to go until I bought a few Hogan models. Obviously there is less detail, but they are beautiful nonetheless.

I love the Hogan product, I have many and will buy more.

The AC is great but the AF is way off.

The doors, windows, titles and cargo hold is way to high on the AF.

How can Hogan get it right on the AC and mess up on the AF.

You're right, I just mesured.... the distance from the ground to the passenger windows is slightly higher on the AF.

Did you notice that from the pictures I posted ?
Do all the AF 777 have the same problem or did I get stuck with a lemon

I think IF200 is a bit too expensive for the quality, and there have been some quality issues popping out here and there. For pricey stuff, I think Herpa Premium is still the way to go, yellowing problem included.
Hogan=lower detail is a thing of the past my friends, especially if you look at their ANA stuff, quality is superior to IF200 (comparing diecasts with diecasts), and the plastic stuff coming out recently, I mean A300 and MD11 are just as detailed or more than diecasts, the main reason being that plastic will always be easier to mold than metal, so small details, contours, shapes, straight lines or curves, antennae, are all possible in plastic and not always on metal.

You won't regret it. To me GJ models are more detailed than IF (regarding antennas or other appendices), and far cheaper !

Far cheaper but GJ has for the moment only small aircrafts and not big aircrafts (747 - DC10) like IF.

What would be nice from Gemini now that they have a 752 mold would be for them to make one in these colours.

Always did like the Britannia Airways colours. Much nicer than the horrid powder blue of TUI.
